also if at the end of the school year ask your school if no one picks up all the old school bags and extra new scribblers that the kids just wont take home. my oldest did this in jr. high and asked the principal. (theold principal didnt klike the idea of him going into the cans). he told him that u dont get the kids to donate these like new ones to kids who have nothing . ud rather throw them out then ask at the end of the year. or get volunteers to go through beofre it goes into the bifg cand outside. I guess the principal was in shock. walked away.
he brought home 7 school bags. 15 binders (7of them zippered ones), 5 rulers, and lots of new pencils still in cases.
    waste not here.
Im going to get youngest at the end of theis year to ask the new principal if he take what he wants.

I think my best dumpster dive was years ago, when we were at a race track. Race cars, local small track. It was a weekend type thing and we stayed the night in a small camper. I got up early the next morning, my usual routine, and had a good time, hauling cans, bottles with deposits out of trash cans, and laying all over the place, basically. I ended up with enough to pay for our gas and then some for that trip. Hubby was a bit not happy with me, but when I presented him with a couple of tools, I had found in the trash cans, he changed his attitude.......

Good finds! My friend just introduced me to the 'swap shop' at the dump- a metal trailor where people leave, and take, items they no longer need that are too good to throw away. I found: pair of dress shoes for DS2 (wasn't going to buy Holiday shoes, but now have them for FREE), skater shirt for ds10, shirt for me, book for baby, Banana Republic dressier shirt in nice teal color for DH. It's obscene, but I can't stop thinking about a few items I left behind- hoping they'll still be there when I go on Weds. There were some Land's End dress shirts (too small for my Dad, but might fit DH, even though he is blue color and rarely would use them) and those sit-up-in-bed pillow things- which DH10 has been asking for. They were a little dirty, but I bet the washer could fix that....I will definitely be 'trash picking' there a few times a month! Once you get into it, you'd be surprised how much terrific stuff people just dispose of, and how much money you can save using other people's cast offs.
