Those WERE great finds...
Our Goodwill store has a 10% off Preferred Customer Card I purchase once a year for $5 and always save more than enough to pay for the card. I can't tell you how many items of clothing I've purchased that still have the original price tag on them.
Back when I needed to dress-up for work, and clothing money was tight, I would purchase men's suits at thrift stores for $4-$5 and re-make the coats into jackets for myself, and modified the pants into a skirt. Those years of high school Home Economics sewing classes really paid off back then! Best buy was a suit with 2-pairs of pants AND a vest.

The best thing I ever found was some signed, numbered watercolors in the frame for $5 each. Not a known artist so far as I can google, but they are perfectly charming and match my living room wonderfully.
My Mom was complimenting me on them until she found out where I got them, then she practically turned her back on them. Whatever.

i get more compliments on my winter coat from goodwill than any coat i've had in about 20 years
and one of my goals this year is to buy as much clothes or household items from thrift stores or yard sales
i also can find good deals at ross (dress for less) but you have to hunt through things because they are seconds and just because something says "large" doesn't mean it is
my shirt for the christmas party was $7.50 and it's beautifulLast edited by jayneluvsmickey; 01-08-2009 at 12:12 PM. Reason: to add about my goal

Great deals! Most of my clothes are thrift store bought. I don't dare go more than twice a year though. I got the gears from DH about spending so much at thrift stores the other day. My jaw dropped. I spend less than $100 per year at thrift stores. I'm tempted to buy at 'real' stores for awhile to see him adjust to the fact it actually costs to wear clothes. Geesh!

I love the Thrifty Chicks blog! Very cool & inspiring! I shop at a thrift store once in a blue moon (maybe 2 or 3 times a year). However, I'm planning to stop in more often after reading about the deals posted on FV & in the blog. I do shop "antique malls" (sort of like fancy flea markets in my area) & consignment shops often as their hours & locations are more convenient, but I'm sure I'd pay less at the thrift stores! Love reading about everyones deals!

Over the weekend my husband and I were in our local GW. We found a brand new-still in the packaging- ping pong set: paddles, balls, net w/ wall mount for $8.00... $8.00!! I couldn't believe it because we have seen the same thing in the regular stores for $25.00 and over (which is why we hadn't purchased it yet - Last summer our neighbor was cleaning out his basement and gave us their ping pong table)
We go at least once a month!** Car is paid OFF!! **
