Default Man! Thrift stores are wonderful things.

I had an hour to go thrifting today; and I found some of the greatest stuff:

    • 5 petite dresses for my DD's. I looked up the mfgr: 2 of these dresses are sold at Dillard's for about $70 each.
    • 2 cashmere sweaters. 1 small and 1 medium. So, one for each daughter.
    • pair of Birkenstock sandals for me.
    • Chico's Travelers black pants for me. I'll have to hem them shorter, but that's all.
    • 2 glass Christmas table decorations -- one candle and one candy dish.

And the best part? The total price came to $15.00 !

Although I often get books, housewares and craft supplies at thrift stores, up until recently, I've never really thought of clothes shopping there. I've tried a few times but got discourage because I never found anything. You've made me feel like giving it another try, I'll have to check through my wardrobe to figure out if I need anything and go on a thrift adventure!!
I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)

I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!

    2012 Financial goals
    • make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
    • pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
    • bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
    • avoid lifestyle inflation
    • improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork

    The Financial Goals I've achieved:
increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

I am currently wearing a coat that I found at a thrift store that I love. I guess I am your typical man, I hate clothes shopping. However, I have to stay away from thrift store because I love the treasure hunt. I am amazed at the quality of the clothes and how lightly they are worn.

Well, I went to my local GW tonight, in search of some stuff for my dd's to sew. (I don't know how very well, but I'm supposed to teach them with the sewing machine Santa brought?)

I've also wanted to start a braided wool rug (Dec. Mother Earth News) I don't want to actually Pay for new wool fabric so I found some wool jackets that I'll be disassembling.

A few cool sweaters for dh

a cute little ponco for 7 yo dd. She was THRILLED and a shirt that will make a great drawstring purse. And she found a Harley Davidson shirt her size.

I've also been wanting to get some pinecones to fill in some holes in a wreath I've had for eons. Found some perfect ones in a bag--30 cents.

    All told. $20

OMG! I used to shopping at high end stores, but checked out a thrift store after signing up here and LOVED it... I've banned myself from them because of the same reason!!

For the Orange County peeps, there's a Goodwill on 17th and Grand... Santa Ana/Tustin??. LOVE.IT!! It's well lit, well stocked, and doesn't smell! I got rain boots for $4 (80 bucks at Neiman's) They have overstocked stuff there....

I am wearing my favorite jeans that I bought at a thrift store. They are Tommy Hilfiger jeans and I got them for $6. They fit perfect and I am short so sometimes it's hard to find pants that fit right.

I go to the local GW every saturday. I just found a sheeps wool ( imitation) coat for $10. Can't wait to see what I'll find this week.

I can't get over the fact that there are actually some people who will not wear used clothing. This just boggles my mind. really. But, whatever! More for me!! LOL!!

Gripey is like this...he won't. We have a running discussion about how the hotel bedding is not brand new, just out of the package for him, oh and what about those towels you wipe off with? Don't you reckon they've wiped someone else off before you?

I have a really, really nice suede and faux mink coat that I got at a Sal Armani's for $12. I get compliments on it every time I wear it. Oh and it's reversable so if ever I have the need for a mink.... I don't think this coat has ever been worn, seriously.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~
