Unhappy The prices of thrift store clothing -- my reflection

So yesterday I bought two pair of shorts, one khaki and one denim at the Salvation Army. I needed them. $3.99 each

Wow, that seemed so high to me. Then I thought about how much more it would have cost to buy a cheaper made pair retail and definitely how much more it would have cost to buy that quality retail.

So then I calmed down but still I was shocked by the new higher prices at the thrift stores.

    Sigh

That is the same price as our thrift store. Just the sign of the times I guess.

It is just at SA that the prices are increasing? For us, it seems only some of the thrift stores have increased prices.

That's a little higher than what I've seen around here, but you are right, you still did way better than retail.

I have found that the stores here vary wildly. Shirts might be $1 at one store (half off on Tuesdays) and $7 at one across town which doesn't take anything out of style or that shows wear.

One thing I do is only purchase the "better brands" at thrift stores. I have clothes by Ralph Lauren and Liz Claiborne that I could never afford to purchase at retail. I also look for Eddie Bauer, L.L. Bean, and Land's End merchandise.

We had a new thrift store open recently. I went in to check it out. I was surprised by the prices. Almost twice what they are at DAV, goodwill, or SA. This was Charity Thrift. They supposedly have daily deals, but I wasn't impressed.

Thrift stores here (upscale CT suburb) have been expensive for a while. Last fall, I fell in love with a pink twin sweater set at one of the thrift stores in town, but I skipped it because it was $30. $30 at a thrift store, not even a consignment shop and it was just Lord & Taylor, not a fancy designer brand!

I rarely bother to thrift anymore. I do better buying on clearance.

I also think furniture at the thrift/salvation army stores are too expensive. And for sets of dishes...crazy!

SA is the only local one we have. I can go to a Goodwill and a children's consignment shop if I head to the big city. I make it there a few times a year. So I don't know the price there.

It is mainly clothing that I found have raised in price especially adult clothing. The rest still seems not to have raised in price here.

    More for name brands? Interesting.

Our SA has out of season or late in the season stuff cheaper. Like $1 for sweaters and long sleeve shirts when they were getting ready to put out short sleeve shirts.

They also have half of color days.

That is high. I bet you can do better on clearance.
