DIY Marketplaces
Technically, I guess this would be considered Secondhand Selling, but this is the closest forum I could find.
I was reading the lastest Readers Digest and they had a bunch of sites people can sell things on --
www.bonanzle.com -- "an online garage sale, with a community of small sellers and the chance to negotiate in real time via instant messanger"
www.dealitlive.com -- "anybody with a webcam and a mic can star in theis FIY version of the Home Shopping Network"
www.half.com -- "books, movies, cd's, video games"
www.abebooks.com -- "new and used books, both rare and common"
www.alibris.com -- "new and used books, music, movies and textbooks"
www.buymytronics.com -- "sell your used, new and even broken gadgets, including ipods, cell phones and game consoles"
www.secondspin.com -- "used cd, dvd and video games"
www.craigslist.org and www.kijiji.com -- "if you want to keep things local, because you have an item too large to ship or just like the personal touch, both sites are free"
www.narts.org (national association of resale and thrift shops) -- "search for stores based on city or zip codes"Last edited by Lady_V; 10-25-2009 at 01:00 PM. Reason: link error

Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

“Decluttering isn't just simplifying your life. It's having a vision, setting new priorities and using those notions to get rid of obstacles.”

eBay is the most recognized online auction site. Some other sites have sprung up and are doing okay. Some people are doing well on some of the niche sites - etsy.com for handmade items, half.com for books, etc.
There are lots of other sites that have come and gone. I have probably tried them all. The problem with the smaller sites is that they don't advertise. eBay has the majority of the eyes of the buyers unfortunately.
Overstock.com and auctions and amazon.com has fixed price listings also. I sell on eBay, my own website, Amazon, and recently started selling on Bonanzle (2 sales in 2 weeks). I have tried selling on craigslist but had no luck.
I have a friend that uses craigslist to rent an apartment and a room out when they become vacant. He is very happy with them.Mary
