    Default Happy garage sale weekend

    1) Berengeur baby doll, play microwave, little golden book, like new, fake Coach purse, fake Kate Spade purse, REAL Dooney and Bourke purse- $7
    2) Crocs, soap gift basket $4- sounds pricey, was a charity 'donate what you will' sale- I NEVER pinch at those, always give more than I would usually pay at garage sale (my BFF got a REAL Fendi!)

Got a bunch of odds and ends at other ones, lots of goodies for kids for Xmas including wooden Melissa and Doug Domino set, new paint by # in package set, things like that. Some vintage jewelry for 25/50 cents for my etsy store. Mickey Mouse sports sleeping bag, $2 for 4 yo for upcoming camping trip this 4th of July.

The fake bags are for me- as much as it breaks my heart, what do I need the Dooney and Bourke for? Already have 2, one for free, one at a yard sale last year for $1- this week's one is up for sale online.

    Cool deals! Congrats!

I took the pregnant and ready to burst DD22 to a mom-to-mom sale last weekend and walked her butt all over the place in hopes of starting labor. No luck in that category, but we did score some good deals.

Evenflo electric double breast pump - $30. (It's a $200 unit if purchased new.)
Various little boy clothing - about 5 or 6 outfits - for the coming baby - $4
3 grocery bags full of clothing for DD22 and some to put on Ebay - $6 ($2 a bag)
    2 new books for me - $0.50

And the biggest, best deal I've ever run across. This isn't a yard sale find, but I just want to share it. I put a notice out on Craigslist that we were a single-parent family trying to make ends meet, and rather than take a handout from the state, we wanted to EARN our extra money by mowing lawns and doing housecleaning - and that we needed a riding mower. Didn't need to be pretty, just needed to run or only need minor repair, and I couldn't pay more than $100 for it. (Truth be told, I really couldn't afford even that much, but I was trying to be reasonable and not ask for a free mower!)

    What I got was....

An Ariens zero-turn radius riding mower.
In excellent condition, just been sitting in a barn for a few years because the owner didn't know what was wrong with it. He was of the mindset "if it breaks, just replace it" instead of fixing it - so it sat for a few years, and he bought a brand new riding mower instead. It needs only minor repair - looks like maybe a starter and a new valve stem for one of the tires (flat). DS18 is in 7th heaven tearing this thing apart and tinkering with it. LOL

Guess what I paid for it?

    $75!!!

Now, if you've read some of my other threads, you know that times are EXTREMELY tough for us right now, and sparing that much money in one week to buy anything other than food, gas or paying bills was HARD. But I also couldn't pass up the deal that was being offered on this mower. The way I see it, even if we can't get it running (which I'm pretty sure we can, and fairly cheaply, too), we can scrap it for the metal that's in it for more than I paid for it. Or we could re-sell it to someone who wants to fix it. Either way, we come out WAY ahead. And if we can fix it, we have a solid, reliable mower that can be used to bring money into the household. So even though it took some tall talking to my "self" to convince myself it was something we needed to spend money on, I'm glad I did it.
