    Question Thrifty Vanishing Acts

~Anyone who's thrifted for more than a few years knows that certain items have a way of disappearing for while and reappearing. Sometimes though, they seem to vanish completely off of the secondhand market.
So what did you used to see all the time and now never do?

For me it's skates. About 10 years ago there were tons of toy skates, adult and children's roller skates, in-line skates and ice skates. Now nothing. It's bizarre.~

Times change, then seems to come back, then gone again..

I think a lot of it is supply and demand... The less demand, the less they keep a supply. Then boom it's popular again, so supply everywhere, even secondhand..

Bikes is the number 1 thing i don't see much of. I have been looking for a 20" bike for grandson to keep at our house. But nope been looking since spring. Even adult ones can't be found.

I used to see dance shoes, like tap shoes all the time! Looked all summer for a pair in DD's size with no luck. Had to pay full price for new one!

I think some things have "vanished" because they are being resold in specialty secondhand stores. People can make more money there.

Like skates are at Play it Again Sports with almost every other sport equipment instead of other thrift stores

Dance shoes are resold on consignment at Dance studios. We have a children's resale shop that is known for selling gently used dance shoes. They always have some available. You could sak for a specific brand and size and they would pull generally pull out a few for you to choose from.

Used Bikes here are given away to children. A group accepts, them cleans them up, fixes them and then gives them away. So bikes here are not seen in thrift stores.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Funny that you should post this.....I was just thinking something along this line.

The round plastic sleds (can't remember what they were called - ? snow disk?)....I used to see them quite often and wanted one the last two years to make a birdbath out of............can't find one anywhere!!

May have to put an ad on CL for it. Can't wait to try the birdbath idea.
