Default Yard sales finds Motherload 2x

I had not been yard saling in several weeks and yesterday I went out early looking for treasures. First was advertised 15 sales in a housing development about 7 miles from where we live. Nothing real exciting at those, but I did pick up some paperbacks at prices of a dime, quarter, and fifty cents each. Two dozen canning jars and lids for $ 2 a dozen.
Next I stop at a sale in the village about 3 miles from me. I find some books at .25 each or 5 for $ 1. I bagged them off at 20 per bag ( $ 4 each ) and bought 3 bags. She mentioned that she was going to go get her mom and more of her books. So I said I would swing back and see what they had. These books had been bought new and read once btw. So when I got back, there was 2 more totes to go through, and I bought 5 more bagfulls ( 100 books this round ). Motherload # 1 for me.
Then I spot a unadvertised sale on the main road right around the corner from the one where I just found the books. So not seeing anything I wanted to buy out, but seeing she had a one bay garage full of boxed stuff, I mentioned a few other things I looked for and asked if she had any of them. One item on my list is yarn. So she said yes she had some but it would be later that day or the next day before she would be able to get it out. So I asked how much a skein she was looking to get for it, and the teenager said $1 a skein but the older lady said .50 a skein would be good. So I asked if there was anyway it could be brought out now and if what I wanted, I would be interested in all of it. The girl said she would get it now if she knew where it was. So it was in another room off the garage. So the girl comes out with 3 boxes that copy paper comes in. The older lady says there is 3 more and she would go find them. So I start counting skeins in the first boxes to get a idea of what is there, etc. So when I finished counting from all the boxes, I rough counted 95 skeins plus a few misc partials. I told the lady I was interested in all of it. And all I asked her, what would be the quanity price for all of it. I was hoping for $ 50 or less. So finally she said $ 20 would be good. I about fell over, but just said, yes, I can do that. The girl helped me load it. After I got home, I did a recount and have 105 full skeins. Most of it is the regular acrylic yarn I will be using myself. She was so glad to have found a knitter who would be able to use the yarn as her health would not let her do it anymore. I figure I have my winter stash now
Guess I better go find a few more sales today and see if my luck continues .............

~Wow, you really scored! Fellow crafters are a generous lot aren't they?
I love that you asked the sellers for items on your list that you didn't see. I do that sometimes but I often get embarrassed and chicken out. I should try it more often. You never know right?~

Well off I go this morning to try to do it again....and or even get a little close. Trying not to be too greedy but I figure when you on a roll, you keep going
My bargain today was one of those HUGE dog crates. I talked the lady down from $ 25 to $ 15. Super clean cage, their dog just outgrew it. Plan is to put it up on craigslist to make some extra money and if I can't get what I want for it, then I will keep it here for a spare. I have one that matches it that we used for chickens this spring and it really worked well.
A few other sales and where the yarn one was yesterday, I picked up some freebies, some lumber, etc. Free is good

So I get home, turn the computer on and it won't open the windows So I call the computer place and tech says to bring it in. There is 11 machines ahead of mine and they maybe able to get to it on monday....maybe. So I am not a happy camper that I have to leave it there, but I can't fix it myself. The tech says it maybe something simple....$ 25....or....if it is my hard drive, I am looking at $ 118 including labor. Sigh
So I leave and go to grab some Chinese food for lunch. We do this maybe 1x a month. Not often. He tells me 15 minutes so I go up the sidewalk in the mini mall and head to the Rescue Mission. Not searching for anything in particuler, just trying to use my time up for the food wait. So I don't take a cart, so I won't be tempted by anything too badly. This store has a new manager and has things all moved around, and looks a bit empty in places. Not impressing me at all. A lot of things are in those big hampers and not put out yet. I don't have time to paw through things, so figured I would just glance at the top parts of them. Then I spied my treasure....one of those plastic bags that a comforter would come in....full of yarn. Most of this looks like balls and partials, but hey, it's yarn So up to the register I go with it, and ask the price and she says 3.99. Okay that will work I say.
Get home, lay lunch on the counter and tell hubby to go ahead without me. I made a beeline into the other room to dig out my old 11.5 year old computer. Get it all hooked up finally, and here I am Whew !

~Woo-Hoo, more deals! I love streaks like that.
Our computer finally, really died two weeks ago. It's been failing ever since we bought the stupid thing(no more eMachines for us!). At four years old it's cheaper to replace than fix.
I hope yours is the cheap fix!~
