Default My most productive thrift store finds yet :)

Lately I had "kind of" decided I wanted a breadmaker and was casually looking at them when I'd see them at thrift stores, but most of them were pretty dirty inside. Well, I found one that looked almost new last week, and it was only $5 and had a pretty small footprint, so I was sold. Baked my first loaf in it that night and my third is currently cooling on the counter.

But it's kind of hard to cut that fresh bread straight and even with a regular knife, so I thought, "An electric knife would be handy." MAN are those expensive! Then I remembered seeing one still in the box at one of my thrift stores a week or two before that, and went back to it and it was still there. $5! I was so thrilled. So for $10 I am now baking and slicing my own bread. Went to Sam's on the free open house weekend Sunday and got a 25 lb bag of bread flour for $6 and 2 lbs of yeast for $4, so I am READY.

I love thrift stores...you never know what you'll find. My next order of business is finding a tall stockpot (at least 10") to do my waterbath canning in that isn't wider than my ceramic stovetop's burners and has a flat bottom.

~Good deals! Homemade bread is so much more filling and delicious than the stuff at the store. I have an addiction to it so it's one of the few baked goods I don't make. If I did I would never eat anything else but bread and butter.
    Great purchases!~

    You did good
Also check out garage sales, and craigslist. Lots of bargains out there to be had. Just a little patience sometimes while waiting for the right ones to come along.
Also you can ask friends and family when you are looking for something on your list. I got my current toaster from my son when I mentioned mine had quit awhile back.

    Great shopping!

Nothing better than hot bread and butter.

Try homemade butter.............you will be hooked!! And so easy to make!

Also.....sometimes at the thrift stores you will find a 'bread guide'.....I love mine. Put the loaf in it.......slice it with a bread knife through the grooves/slots on the guide. Even every time.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

That's a great deal on the bread machine! Mine died about 6 months ago. I'm still looking for one. So for now, I'm doing it the old-fashioned way.

I love making homemade bread. Also, I use an electric knife to cut the bread. Really makes it easy to slice. I bought my electric knife at the thriftstore also.

I hear you can use the electric knife also on things like meat. lol

I have now completed my bread machine set with a bread slicing guide. $4 for the Presto one that is apparently the best bread slicing guide ever made.
