    Default went thrifting

had a bit of time between patient # 2 and pt # 3 so went to a thrift i like-( with no kids in tow too LOL ) prices have become increasingly high there sad to say since the economy has more people thrifting . To be honest most times i can often do better at clearance racks new then i can at the thrift ( like the 2 shirts i got new at JCPenneys today for 1.97 each .)

but i felt like browsing a bit .

    i did pretty well

they no longer have their 2 color tags are 1/2 price each day deal but they did have 2 deals boys jeans buy 1 get free and woman's swim suits b1 get 1 free.

their paperback books have good deals also 30c each or 4 for 1$ .

i got the 9 yo 2 prs of jeans both marked 3.90 so 3.90 for 2. in excellend condition !

i got 16 books about 6 of them were from Oprah's book club that i always wanted to read but wasn't about to pay retail for . so 4$

i got the 16 yo who wears them for school - a really cool tie New with tags it has a computer keyboard design - i looked it up and it has a 32$ retail value new paid 3.50 for it going to put it in his Christmas stocking

some weird wiffle balls for 9 yo new in packaging they are made in a diff design so they spin / whirl when you throw them . 1.50

I agree with you about the prices at the thrift shops. I saw a quilted purse yesterday the handles were faded and they wanted $50. You've got to be kidding. I did go to another thrift store and I got aluminum mini blinds for my 72" window for $5. I was soo excited. Large window aluminum mini blinds are very expensive brand new.

Glad you found all those great deals. I'm just learning about thrift store shopping and was also surprised at some of the high prices - just have to know prices and values!!

    Great deals......congrats.

Always amazes me how different the prices are around the country.

The CHEAPEST book you can get at any of our thrift shops is 99 cents. Hard backs are higher. And our library has 2 sales a year where the paperbacks are all 25 cents.......hardbacks 50 cents.

I sometimes wonder who does the pricing at my thrift shops. Some things are really crazy prices.

I agree that prices are up a lot and I can usually do better to buy new on clearance. Weird huh?

I would love to see that tie too Momto5RN! It does sound so cool. But I do agree about the prices at thrifts being nuts. It seems like they all consider themselves to be "vintage" shops instead of what they reall are....2nd hand stores. Now if you got a "good eye" for things, you can really score. I have a friend who is setting up an on-line shop, and she strictly shops for antique glassware. It took her 2 years though to train herself between recognizing junk and the real thing.

Fortunately for me though, we actually have 3 stores that are "true" thrifts. Like dishes are $.10, and they do "fill a bag" clothing days for $5. !'m talking a Glad trash bag size. But Good will, and Lifetime Ministries are pretty pricey. But I guess because they use the money to rehabilitate people, they're ~almost~ understandably in the right. But I also think if they charged less, they'd get alot more buyers, and then of course more cash flow. They certainly don't seem to lack donations. Our's our huge stores, jammed packed.

Craftypam, I forgot to mention that you did great finding those blinds.

you have to know what you are doing. somethimes they charge more for the item that it was originally.

i have really good luck with furniture.
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I have started my fall/winter thrifting while they are still lower cost. Come September all of that clothing will be "regular" price at the Thrift Stores.
