treadle sewing machine
was just given a treadle sewing machine for free as it did not have a belt for it --got one for it today from an old hardware store i go to sometimes-cant wait to start sewing like my mother and grand mother did-just have to learn to use my feet while I'm sewing-its an old sears sewing made around the 1920,s everything seems to be there so for free ill take it just another step toward being off the grid---hugs to all fv and their familys
its better to have and not need than need and not have

WOW! That's wonderful! I remember my grandmother sewing on a treadle machine when I was a child. My DD has it now, but doesn't sew. Enjoy!

Very, way, cool. I envy you!
Of course those of you that want to be off grid/self sufficient and can't find or afford one of those beauties, can always sew by hand. Insert evil grin, but really, hand sewing can be fun and relaxing. I hand sewed a very simple skirt for my daughter last year; it only took a couple of hours (she was 8) and was very cute.
I would really like to hand piece and hand-quilt a quilt one of these days, even if it's just a mini/wall hanging. But for now I'm enjoying the brand new mid-range Kenmore sewing machine my mother bought me for Christmas...even though it is made in China, and plastic. However I really, truly envy OP her antique treadle machine!

I am so envious. My grandmother had one and I remember seeing it growing up. Have fun. I would buy a couple of the belts just to have some.

That is so awesome, enjoy it!!! I think My grandmother has one at the top of her stairs, if I remember right.

What a great find! I really want to learn how to sew and would love to do it on one of those machines. I am also eager to do anything I can to save energy.

Hmm. I have one. I'm selling it, I think. There's a young woman who wants it, promised her I'd put it in the antique booth at the end of January. If it doesn't sell, I suppose it'll come home. I'd love to have used it, but no idea how!
