Yesterday afternoon i decided to hit two goodwills in my area. I didn't buy anything but did notice on certain items that the prices had gone up. Some things had $12.99 stickers on them!!

I'm a clearance rack shopper to and you all are right...sometimes you can get better bargains on the clearance racks. Kohl's is one of my favorites for shoes, towels and other household items and if I'm blessed to have a percent off card I can do even better. Got a 30% off one right now and hoping to go to Kohl's tomorrow. Getting so much off is the only reason I have a Kohl's card LOL. I never carry a balance. We've gotten some great deals like that. Nike's, Van's for less than $10.00 a pair. I love it!!

I go to a few in he bigger city and the clothes range from. $3.49 for shirts Jeans $5.00 housewares or high. Now another one i go to has the same prices for clothes except housewares, purses are dirt cheap. Books in the bigger town are 49 cents for soft and .79 for hard unless its a school or college text then its $2.99. The smaller one soft books are $1.49 hardback range from $ 2.49 to $6.00 text books $ 8.00 and up. I love my Salvation army's around here. Dirt cheap stuff.

I'm in Colorado and our prices aren't bad. My mom actually will bring an empty suitcase to buy clothing here for her and my dad so she can take them back to CA. The prices tend to be around $4-5.00 per clothing item for adults and with their half prices days I do very well. I am also lucky because we also have several Salvation Army and Arc thrift stores. It seems like everyday is a sale day somewhere.

Here jeans are $5.99, shirts $3.99 unless they are brand names and then can be up to $7.99. Coats are generally $9.99. We have half off days but it doesn't include clothing...only the knickknack items.

Here our half of days only include clothing not knickknacks.

Someone else from my part of AL posted upthread about the pretty reasonable prices in this area, but the Goodwill near my parents who live on the Florida panhandle is much more expensive. It's been a long time since I've shopped there, but there are times when I can get better deals on clearance racks at the outlet stores down the road!

There are two different thriftstores in walking distance to me. One seems to have higher prices but a larger selection than the smaller thriftstore with lower prices. This is all within a mile of each other.

I live in Iowa. We only have two Goodwill. The prices usually run about 3.95 for adult clothes, 2.95 for children, and so on. I wish the Good will where I live would particpate in the discounts. I got a Goodwill rebate card while in Chicago and have not used it yet.

In Portland, shirts and skirts are around $6.99, pants are $7.99. One color tag a week is half-price. If I can find a brand-new good quality pair of pants with tags still on, it's worth it. The other thrift store I go to has tops and skirts for $5 and pants for $7, one 50% off color tag and one that's 75% off a week, and frequent sales.

The 'Sallly's' in MA/NH have gotten CRAZY with their prices! Even 'ratty' jeans seem to be $7+, shits $5+....I rarely shop there nay more, used to go often, but the price hikes the last few years makes what you say true- you can get new, on sale, often cheaper. The Goodwill is slightly cheaper, but again, won't buy anything there unless I LOVE it! Waiting for garage sale season to start here- good deals then! Last year I got brand new Nikes, in my size (11w, women's) for $1 because it's an odd size and the woman who bought them decided she didn't like them after all but lost the receipt.

I agree! The "chain" thrift shops around here have gotten insane with their prices. Try church thrift shops... I've found them to be much more reasonable lately!!!

And btw, if you don't know about this, here's a link to a thrift shop directory:
