Unhappy Oh Man, my Goodwill just raised prices

I was wondering why there were so many good brands/good quality and plenty of them today at my Goodwill today. Then I noticed they just raised their price about a $1 straight across the board.

so shirts a $1 more skirts a 41 more kids clothes a $1 more. You get the picture.

    Bummer

I did find one I couldn't resist though.

A summer dressy white shirt. You know one of those you slip over any tee or tank and your dressy. So very versatile. I know because I had one just like it that I loved but the dry must of shrunk it

So I just had to have this one to replace the one that left my closet.

But at almost $4 after tax it was hard to do.

    Sigh prices.

Aww, I'm sorry imagine. That stinks. Our GoodWill has always sold shirts for $3.97, but if they are nice, not even a name brand, just nice it can be tagged $6.97 to $9.97. If it's a brand label, look out! It's the area I know, but our prices are through the roof. Very sparse and picked through lately too. I went yesterday and was totally surprised to find that instead of the 4 packed racks of womens shirts there was 1 and it was only 3/4's filled. It was that way with all the clothing, not just women's shirts. I don't know if people are not donating their stuff as much, opting to sell it or what, but it was really weird. I did find 2 really great deals, but drew the line at an $8 used flat sheet for a twin bed. It was not even a quality flat sheet, and was all faded from washing to boot.

Polly I too wonder why your store was was so bare. I wonder if they opened a new one and set some that way to fill it up. That happened at my mother's Goodwill in her town when our Goodwill opened up in our town. Her store was bare for a while.

So far our goodwill has basically stuck to the one price item instead of raising the price on extra good brands. I hope that continues.

One time I was in the lady said they tended to sell the things that would go for way more on their auction website and they were to sell that stuff there on the site.

I had stopped going to this Goodwill just because the prices had gotten so high, that, and it seemed like just a huge bunch of junk. Seriously, just a lot of junk. It used to be very good, not anymore.

The last time I was at this one was well over a year and a half ago. They were packed. Example: If they was one bra there was a hundred, yesterday 2 total. If they had one handbag they had a hundred or more, yesterday, maybe (a big maybe) 20. They used to have a rack of men's suits that was 10' foot. Filled to the brim on each side. Yesterday, maybe a dozen suits. Men's dress shirts went almost the entire length of the very big building, two tier. Now a one sided, freestanding rack about 3 feet, lots of room between shirts. There used to racks and racks of baby clothes, now just a single rack. From baby to big kid sizes. There used to be 15' of just curtains, at least that in blankets sheets and towels too. Yesterday maybe 5 foot total for all of it combined. But LOTS, and LOTS, and LOTS of junk. It was as if everything people could not even give away at their yard sales was donated to Goodwill. Before it was so packed with stuff and the racks were so close together. Now, there is plenty of room between each rack, and they left a quarter of the floor plan open for things like furniture and there was a sofa, a chair and a TV. The rest was totally bare, and this is a BIG store. It used to be a home goods store that went out of business. That was a lot of empty space, and if you count the extra space between racks, there really was a lot of empty space. I seriously think half of what was in that store was yard sale housewares that could not be sold at other GoodWills and it got unloaded at this one.

Our shirts are $3.99 here but brand name shirts can be priced up to $9.97. Sucks the prices went up.

looks like our prices caught up to yours. Crossing my fingers they don't up process based on brand. Still just a this is a shirt price.

They do charge more then their standard price for shoes that are great brands and in excellent condition.

Our Macys store is always have gigantic sales; it may be better to pay a few $s more for quality at sale price. Scary when the TS are not frugal shopping places anymore!!

I always thought goodwill was a bit higher then any other thrift store. If your savvy there are still some good deals, I buy the discount color of the week and that takes it to price it should be.
I think 2.69 for a used walmart t-shirt is too much. I won't pay more then 2.00 and that's if I love it. There are plenty of stores around that sell them for 1.00, I'll go there. I'm assuming GW just has a higher operating expense.

The Goodwill is the cheapest thrift store we have. The other is Salvation Army and it is higher.

Once a week they change color of the week. It means that items has stayed int he store for a month. All that are left then ( unless really lucky ) are the very used walmart shirts. The high quality shirts tend to leave the week they are put out.

    My store choices are limited

Walmart, Jc Penney's, Salvation Army, Goodwill

other than that I have order on line or drive an hour to the big city to shop. Hubby is thinking we may just have to buck it up and go to the big city more than once a year or so (Hubby hasn't been in a few years) Still you don't tend to get the big sales or the good clearance deals that way.

Most of the prices are set assuming the 1/2 off Fri. and Sat. here (clothes)
I paid $10. for my big purse I just bought. I have looked and looked to find a large 1 w/ pockets so I disqustedly bit.

Goodwill has always been cheaper w/ .49 mugs and .29 glassware but their clothes are worn. S.A. is more exp. but they have better sales and better stuff. Also of the 4 I go to it depends on location for price. $7.99 for a new plastic mattress cover and it wasn't even zipable,$7.99 for a new thin lap blanket, uh NO!!.

Our GW has shirts at $3.50, Dresses $5.00, 2 piece outfits are $7.50, and skirts and pants are, I believe, $3.75.
I have no problem with their clothing prices, however, the rest of our GW prices are outrageous. They have Tupperware that runs $4 and up and I am talking about the old Tupperware. Now that is just an example but you get the picture.

I absolutely cannot stand to pay the prices Goodwill asks sometimes. I don't go if it's not a .50 day, because the things they have there are not worth the extra money imo!

I'm very lucky to have a church ran thrift shop in my area. I got a pair of juicy couture (authentic to boot!) sweat pants for $2, $80 retail! They rarely specialty price items unless they are really worth more. I don't mind paying though, because this church does so much for many people, not just people that go to their church.
