Dumpster diving!!
I just moved into a new apartment and need to furnish. In this complex there is always someone moving out. So far I have added a couch and end table to my furnishings at no cost. Kind of fun so far and this weekend is the end of the month so I will be keeping my eyes open. Anyone else have similar finds?

The curbs and dumpsters outside of the married student housing at any major university with a large foreign student population are a GREAT place to find stuff when a semester ends. Nobody takes their stuff back to Asia with them!

I sure wish we had dumpsters or curb drop offs. I've heard of so many people finding such great things for free. There is a woman that posts on the Hgtv message boards that picks up curb stuff and remakes it into something else. She has her own shop and makes a killing on her trash to treasures.

I've grabbed quite a few items from next to apartment dumpsters. I'll refinish the item, fix broken hardware, and then either sell, donate or give away whatever I've fixed. I do it mostly to increase my knowledge and skills, partly for something to do, and partly to make a few bucks.

I wish we had dumpsters we could dive into here but we don't. They are all locked. But my DS who attended his first year of university this past year went dumpster diving and took all the textbooks. He Is planning on selling them this year to make a few extra bucks!
he is his Momma's kid!

Wow! What a great set-up! I'd be watching that dupster like a hawk! My older brother used to work as a NYC garbage man. I could fill a notebook with the things he'd pick up aqnd bring home. His basement is filled to the rim with beautiful antiques and all kinds of treasures. It's like a museum down there! And about 10 years back, Pampers was giving away savings bonds for the UPCs from the boxes. Well, I can't remember exactly how many bonds he received from being able to tear off the thrown away UPCs, but I do remember being quite floored by the amount.
Well, I'm thrilled for you too with all your finds! Keep us posted of anymore goodies you come across! I think we all love reading a good "dumpster dive story".....lol!
Great post!

yes a tater and onion bin, a candle holder that fits inside a large fireplace,( we have a fireplace now I kept for 5 years everyone tried to buy it or steal it from me lol ) A rocking chair and baby toys that I did not need bleached them and gave to the domestic violence shelter. People throw away perfectly good things.

Mamamia I remember them doing the Pampers upc's when my 2 were babies. I saved mine and got one for my dd. It takes a lot just for 1 $50.00 one so he must have gotten a bunch. That is just wonderful!

It is so much fun
I love dumpster diving. I use to go to this flea market where, most of the vendors would leave items, if they did not sell them. I found a couch, chair. dishes, lamps. two lighted bookcases. I would wait until it was late and pick up anything and everything. I once saw a washer and dryer

No opportunity here, either.
One time we did have the chance to rescue a vintage three-burner Coleman campstove from a campground Dumpster at a state park, and we didn't do it. I have virtually no use for it, it would have added to the clutter around here, and I wouldn't have wanted to sell it once it was in my possession, so we left it there. I still regret it though.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Around here we have large article day 4X a year. You set out by your garbage anything that's big that doesn't fit in your regular garbage. People drive around town with their trucks and watch for stuff to get put out. Some of the people take only the metal items and take them in to get the money for the scrap. My only thing I have taken is 4 plastic lawn chairs.
