    Default Our Finds this Weekend!

Between the "good" Goodwill here and a store called Purple Cow, we spent about $35. It is a bit disappointing that compared to what I read in other posts that the thrift prices here are a bit higher than other areas...mostly the clothing prices.

    Our haul:
    $1 - Disney Pocahontas VHS
    $6 - For a Fab lamp shade
$6 - For an equally fab lamp
    $2.49 for Flower Hooks
The rest was on clothes for our baby. The prices ranged from 99 cents to $1.99.

    Still good deals!

Here is a pic of the flower hook...in the next few days we will redo it for DD's room and I'll post an "after"!

...you DO live in the same city as me
unless there is more than one Purple Cow. I have found some awesome glass/serving ware there, but I always find the staff to be kinda rude.

Yep, I really DO live here! lol

I do like Purple Cow, but I find that they are a bit cold when dealing with customers. I find that the merchandise makes up for the lack of customer service though.

cute flower hook, can't wait to see what you do with it.

I agree with Debbie, it does seem that even thrift store prices are going up...up...up.

I went to an 'estate sale' recently, and was SHOCKED at the prices on the contents.

Little mismatched glasses in the kitchen for $4 - $5 a piece - really???? yard sale price would be 25 cents, if that!

this was a sale managed by an estate sale company, so there was sales tax also.

yikes. I felt bad for the family that thought it was a good idea to pay to have someone else sell grandmas stuff. May have been better off just donating it all for the tax write off. geez.

Thanks! I should be able to post the pic later. DH had to help me paint in the tiny groove, my hand just isn't stead enough.

I agree as far as the estate sale vs. garage sale idea. Unless your family has *very* pricey Ethan Allen antiques and Waterford and the likes you would do so much better having a garage sale. I am someone that is more likely to buy small things at sales and I am NOT paying $5 for one small piece of green or pink depression class (I collect it on a very limited basis) just because there is a business running the sale when it is really only worth $1 or $2.

I think sometimes for families it is just easier not to deal with the emotions so they are willing to make less money.

even thrift store prices are going up here and I live in a very rural area 150 -200 miles from a big city or mall. Everything costs.

    ~You did great!!
I hope the prices I sometimes put up aren't the ones disappointing you. I know a lady who runs a huge yard sale all the time to benefit her church and seniors on Medicare. She has multiple garages/outbuildings that are stacked with all kinds of stuff. I have to dig in the heat and bugs but that's how I get $.10-.50 clothing and household item bargains. Sometimes I call it a thrift and sometimes I call it a yard sale when I post the finds I get there because I'm just not sure how to classify it.
Our Goodwill and Salvation Army prices(well, the half price tags anyway) are the same as the bargains you got.
    $6 for a lampshade is wonderful!~

Love the new paint job on the peg rack. Also the lamp & shade are very nice.

I was so disappointed when The Key a local thrift shop closed a few months back. It supports the woman's shelter and always had good stuff and good prices. Its open again - Yeah!! I got two new pair of Alfred Dunner slacks and a knit shirt for $1.50 each and 8 books for $2. I need to go back soon. Problem is they close at 5:00 and I don't get off work until 4:30 and, of course, have to drive there and park so it doesn't leave me time to look things over good.

Local Goodwill is a dead loss. Over priced to the extreme.

Cute finds.......you made some great buys.

All prices are really going up..........you have to really 'search and dig' to find the oddball 'really good price'.......even some of our garage sales are just stupid prices!
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

    I think you did GREAT!

Our thrift store prices have reeeeeeeeeeeally started to go up...especially in the last 6-12 months. So, I'm always thrilled when I find any decent deals!

At our Value Village (Savers) blouses can be $10!!! Yes, USED!!! Jeans are often $7-$15!! The craziness goes on... It's getting harder and harder to find a bargain!

So, when ya find 'em...cheer!!! And you DID!!
