Free, my favorite price!
~Last week I picked up a free cedar trunk from a yard sale. The outside is hurting but it looks and smells great inside. Well, it does now that I chipped off the wax in there and wiped out all the dirt.

I was originally thinking of using the existing kickplate trim to make new kickplates. But now I'm thinking bun feet would be much faster and probably a bit cheaper.
The real question is whether or not to paint it......~Constance

I'd paint the outside, but not the inside. By painting the outside, it would also disguise if the feet you add don't match.

The outside will be attractive if you refinish, not paint it. I'm not into painted furniture.
The inside should stay fragrant for years just as it is, if the cedar fragrance disappears, just sand it a little. No spend days 2012 93/365

Congrats, Nuisance! I love picking up free junk and making it beautiful or at least useful again.
That's a tough call about painting. It looks like it might not need it, but it's hard to tell from pictures. Have you thought about scratch remover?
BTW, if you lightly sand the inside, it'll expose new cedar, get rid of any dirt or wax remaining, and intensify the cedar aroma.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Awesome! I like natural wood so I would refinish it but if you like paint you could it would be like an undercover cedar chest

I would probably paint it. Put a little trim on the top around the outside of the lid. Then place a nice cushion inside the trim. Just think it would really make a nice bench to sit on especially if you add feet to the bottom.
