Question What I can't buy used...

~With school starting again I've had to buy all kinds of consumables in the last few weeks. I detest consumables because you can't get them used at a discount and you can't resell them after use!
So besides the obvious things like packs of crayons and personal care items like toothbrushes, what can't you buy used or haven't been able to find to buy lately?
What can you buy used that most people haven't considered?~

~Things I've been shopping for lately that I can't buy used: Car seat(did that once but won't do it again), 12 inch ruler(you'd think there'd be a billion of these plastic things at thrifts but nooooo), majority of homeschooling textbooks(they're all about as expensive as new, why?), printer ink cartridges(refilled ones aren't available for our printer), and pacifiers.
Somewhat unusual things I've used lately that were purchased secondhand: beach chair, cloth diapers, sports equipment.~

These aren't unusual items but, dh can never find any clothes in our SA. Do men wear their clothes till they fall apart? I thought maybe he was too picky so I looked and there was nothing to speak of!

I am a little frustrated with uniform shopping. I was able to get DD's uniform jumpers/dresses used from her school for $12 each. This is an absolute steal because new they are $39 each. They are required to wear bloomers/shorts underneath. Well, there were no unders in her size! So now I have to buy those used. They are $12 each! The same cost as the jumper!!!!!

It's not the end of the world since I am getting off much cheaper, but urgh!

now that our son has moved out of 6X and into 'regular' small for boys clothing i've noticed that used stores have very little in this area. generally only t-shirts and jeans. very few sweaters, button up shirts, slacks, cords, pjs. it's annoying.

do boys wear clothes until they disintegrate?

We are also shopping for a car seat right now, and can't buy it used.
One thing I can't buy used and wish I could are bras. I wear a size not stocked in usual stores, and am stuck going to the specialty store when I need one.

I would buy a used car seat if I knew who it was coming from. Friend/Family, I would be comfortable with it.

the only thing I can think of that I wouldn't buy used would be sex toys.

    eeeeeeek.

As long as they are in good shape, and I can bleach them, I would buy used undies & swimsuits.

    Oh, I wouldn't buy used/open food either.

Those of you looking for carseats should check out Target. I got an Evenflo Big Kid XXL for $23. The seat was originally $67. They had lots of other models, too.

I can't use a carseat bought outside Canada. We are supposed to be getting some Target stores starting next year though!

I'm really interested in this now - how would anyone know where your car seat was purchased?

Here, noone even checks to make sure it's installed correctly. We can go on our own to the firestations and ask for someone to check - but it's certainly not mandantory.

Unless you got pulled over and they did a thorough search of your car, I doubt they would know. They do have a stamp on them from Transport Canada though. And I don't think it would make it through customs if it was purchased online or something like that.
I found a news article published a while ago about it. I agree it's silly.

My sister thought it was odd that I wasn't above buying pots or pans used. If I see a good quality pan at a thrift store at a good price and I think I can clean it well, then I buy it.

    Same for glassware.

I have lousy feet, so I rarely can find used shoes, in fact I've not looked for a long time. I get new shoes and wear them until they fall apart. I have never bought used underwear or swimwear. That isn't to say I couldn't, I just haven't. Underwear can be found cheaply enough that it isn't usually a problem. Swimwear isn't. The local swim club has a deal with a local swimsuit maker. They sell off the end of their lines cheaper one day at the end of the season.

Many of my clothes, much of my dishes, some of my bedding I bought used, except for bed pillows.

Oh, and we bought our house used too!
