Found the important places to shop here!
So far, I've found 3 thrift stores within walking distance of my house!
The best one is run by one of the churches on base. I went there the other day, and for $5.80, I got:
1 fancy dress, 3 T-shirts, 1 pair of shorts, and 1 pair of pants for DD
1 T-shirt for DS
1 T-shirt for myself
a bunch of magazines, a couple of books, plus 2 big bags of little toys for the kids. DD was thrilled with the toys, there were little Kelly dolls, some Polly Pocket stuff, and a whole bunch of other things. It was a good day!
Unfortunately, this store closes during the summer, and re-opens in the fall. But, before they close, they are having a giant garage sale next weekend to try and reduce their stock. Their prices are so low now, I dont' know how much lower they can go!
The other 2 stores are very similar, mostly clothes. Everything is in big bins, and you basically just pick through. One store has better prices than the other--for kid's clothes you don't pay more than $2 for any one item. From what I can see, they put out new stuff all the time, so I'll probably be going back fairly often.
There are one or two more places, but they are a little further away, so I'll have to wait to check them out--but so far, I'm happy with what I'm seeing here!~Tracy~
