Default Estate sale, thrift store, and garages sales! Oh my!

The kids were in VBS this past week. So I spent time enjoying myself shopping. Here were some of my finds:

$20 -- hammock stand. Ours broke earlier this month, so this was a great find.
about $5 -- Tupperware pieces. I love Tupperware, and now I have plenty of smallish (about 1.5 qt) bowls w/ lids.
$37.50 -- small oil painting for DH for a Christmas gift. (When it went to half-price at the estate sale).
    $11 -- a hand-crank meat grinder. (This purchase was probably a mistake.)
$5 -- an electric meat grinder. ham salad, anyone?

And I spent over $100 of my saved-up allowance:

At the thrift store, I bought 2 elegant dresses with silky matchng jackets ($2.50 apiece); 6 sweaters ($0.75 apiece); and a navy skirt ($1.50). I'm thinking of wearing one of those dresses to the opera next week.

I paid $15 for a lovely wool shawl a the estate sale. The label says, 'parrott industries. handwoven in santa fe.' It is beautiful; I wonder what something like that retails for? I saw a beautiful handwoven scarf display last winter -- each scarf was priced in the $50 range. I do plan on wearing it to the opera!

In fact, I bought a 2nd shawl -- but I'll pay myself back -- because DH will give it to me for Christmas!

At the estate sale, I bought yarn and knitting needles. Good yarn -- soft wool and even some alpaca. I looked some of it up on ebay, and it goes for around $5/skein. I bought a box of 10 skeins for $8. I bought good needles too -- my knitting friend tells me that 'addi turbo' circular needles retail for about $10/pair. I bought 20 pairs of circular needles ... some are addi turbo, but I don't know how many. I think I spent around $80 for all the yarn and needles.

I'll take inventory in my free time next week -- busy weekend.

Fantastic deals and sounds like you had fun shopping and taking your time.

I need one of those hammock stands too. Will have to start keeping my eyes open for one.
