Anyone else yard sale-ing?
I went out w/ DD#1 today. For $29, I got:
*a music stand (Yay! DD#2 needed one.) ($3)
* 4 new photo albums (small) w/ acid-free plastic. ($4) We'll let DD's make gifts for their friends using these -- and photos taken all year long.
* 4 tie-on chair cushions ($5)
* small laundry basket w/ handle ($1)
* Hoberman construction toy ($8) [expensive for a garage sale, but DD#2 is thrilled.]
* 2 nice travel games ($5) [magnetic triazzle and pocket chess]
* cargo tie-down strap ($1)
* a booklight for DD#2 ($1). It even has working batteries!
* metric system flash cards ($1)
DD bought a stacking (matrushka) doll to give to her sister at Christmas ... $2.
Yesterday, I hit the thift store. For $5.50, I got
* wooden 500-piece jigsaw puzzle
* Geosafari game, w/ 15 cards (!!!! great deal)
* 2 yds fabric for Halloween costume
* 4 children's books
*** edited to add *****
* small coyote cross-stitch picture
* 4 religious art posters ... She charged me $0.10 apiece. Original stickers were on some of them .... $8 apiece!

You always find great stuff!
We drove by one this morning to check it out and it was nothing special so we didn't stop. It's harder for me to go to them now since we live 'out in the country' and not many are held near us. With gas so high, I can't justify driving very far.

I have friends and co-workers who always get real steals at thrift stores and yard sales (a brand new Ralph Lauren dress for $19.00 for example). I can never find good deals

Great deals.
I haven't been to a ton of yard sales this year. It's just been way too hot.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Yard sales & thrift store
I had some shopping therapy yesterday. I went to a local thrift store and got a new with the tags Areopostle shirt for 50c and a really nice Dixie outfitters shirt for 50c. A nice new Mary Kate & Ashley skirt and Mary Kate and Ashley halter for 50c each. 10 C.D.s Nat King Cole & Big band era stuff ( I love it)6 of them were part of 2 really nice box sets for 5.00, I even got my husband's Birthday gift at a yard sale on the way back home for $3.00 ( A brand new "Vols fan parking sign") It sales at the specialty store for anywhere from 10.00-15.00. I spent a little time out in the world and the kids are glad I did. ( I babysit 4 and have two of my own)
I figure I got about 160.00 worth of stuff we really would like to have and only spent 10.00 and had a little time to myself.
You can really find nice stuff, If you dig a little. My oldest LOVES the designers and I was able to get her some, with out going into debt.

I ALWAYS do as much treasure hunting on the weekends as I can possiby do. This week, the sales seemed scarce, perhaps because of the county fair going on (I live in the county seat, so the fair is in our town), but I managed to find a large crate of cross stitch books and kits--about 180 in all-- for $5.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! I figure even at an average price of $4.00 each if they were bought new---WOW! I made out BIG!
You can never have enought crafty stuff!!!!!
