This has probably been already mentioned but I've just come across the Yahoo freecycle site http://freecycle.org This site list local groups of people giving away items they no longer want and people requesting items that they want. There are groups in the US, Canada, Germany and UK. Also has an international link. Our local group only likes people to ask for things once a month.

I just got a 55-gallon drum to use as a rain barrel from freecycle.
Freecycle is a good, good thing. Less waste, less in the landfills, good karma....

I love Freecycle. A few weeks ago the nicest girl gave me two big baskets of baby clothes, now I'm going through my things fpr a Holiday dress that mine has grown out of for hers. I never would have met her without.

I got the most beautiful dresser from freecycle. I am waiting to lose another thirty pounds and I am listing my clothes--gladly.
