noitake china
I bought a 66 pc set of china at an auction earlier this year for $40. I knew that I had gotten a deal when I saw that it was occupied Japan. I could never find the pattern name. I have finally hunted down the name. It is Dresala #3033. From what I can find without being able to access Ebay from work, this is a rare pattern and worth quite a bit. How'd I do?

It is somewhat rare. Is your set complete? No chips/cracks on lids of serving pieces? What is nice is that it's a pretty set too.
Do you plan on selling it or keeping it? You did great getting it for only $40.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. The funny thing is that when I boughtit, I had planned on selling it. But I have since fallen in love with it and will keep it. THere are a few chips on a piece here and there. I have setting for 11 of all pieces, minus two saucers or cheese plates, I believe. I also have the sugar bowl with lid and creamer.

You can check www.replacements.com to see what they're selling it for. They do buy china pieces, but they don't pay much for the pieces.

I'd say you did fantastic! I think Japan was occupied in the 1940's and anything that is occupied Japan is rare. Maybe you can find some other pieces to complete your set. Good job!!

Here's a wild idea that works so good for me I now care 3 saucers one for my sister and one for a friend.
Put a saucer in your car. When ever you go into a thriftstore or goodwill take it with you! Put an address label on the back to prove its yours and show it at the front desk when you go in. I've found several pieces this way. You'd be surprised where you'll come across a plate or bowl. When we travel out of town I visit the goodwill and thriftshops in the area where I visit and you'd be surprised what you'll come across. I carry it with me just to be sure of a proper match. Mines a Homer Laughlin Eggshell Nautlas Pattern. Also just for grins and haha's post on Freecycle what your looking for. You never know and it doesn't cost anything!
I'd keep it and use it to make my dinnertimes more special. When I was given my Great Grandmothers China I put it away til I heard a lecture by Leo Buscaila. Who was I saving it for? Use it now and enjoy it because your family is the most important group of people you know!

P.S. When I find a piece that goes to some I knows pattern I save it for the first gift giving chance I get. Like "Happy Friday".

Thanks everyone! I am looking forward to serving many special dinners on my china. I will have to follow your advice and carry a piece with me when I go bargaining.

I just looked up the discontinued Noritake 1960s vintage service for 12 that was my mom's and it looks like it's worth $1500+ for all the individual pieces.
