My unexpected FREE garage sale find
Well, I was doing some quick garage-saling this morning before we take off for the state park and came across a sale in the neighborhood next to ours. It was being held to raise money for a karate class. I bought a cute leather purse for DD, three nice shirts and a jacket for DS, and a couple of books for both kids for $3.00. As I was giving them my money, I happened to ask about the karate class they were raising money for. It turns out that it's a FREE class that's held two nights a week for a couple of hours at a church not too far away. They said that anyone is welcome and that the kensei doesn't want any of the students to buy a uniform until they have been to at least four classes to make sure that they really like it. My DS has been wanting to take karate and to find a class that's free is just wonderful. Now that I've told him, he's so excited he can't wait for Tuesday to come so he can go to his new karate class and I'm excited because the "price" is just right.

Well, we attended karate class on Tuesday and I thought everyone there was very nice and it's a wonderful idea and service that's provided, but..my DS didn't like it.
He thought it was too long (2 hour class) and wasn't at all like his friend Richard's karate class where they play games and have fun while learning karate. This class offered more of a straight forward learning approach since there were both adults and kids learning. Unfortunately, Richard's karate class costs $95/month which they automatically deduct from your bank account after you sign a one year contract. (Dang, for that much and a contract I'd want them to sign one for me promising DS would be Chuck Norris, Jr. within the year.
)
So the sport that DS wants to play is baseball. He's actually wanted to play baseball for the past couple of years but he was in Cub Scouts. Now that he's no longer in Cub Scouts he had also decided that he wanted to try karate after going with his friend. When I found the free class I figured we'd try that activity first, then move on from there. So I guess I'll be pricing little league rates now. Oh well, at least it didn't cost us anything for him to try.
