Default How is your house/apt furnished...

I would call our style Early American Yard Sale and 2nd hand store .Most of our furniture has come from 2nd hand stores and most of the decorations, knicknacks etc are from yard sales. The only things that are not are our bedroom set and of course the mattresses and our living room set. Our living room set we bought 7 or so yrs ago at a discount place though Its funny because I have a neighbor who came to my house and gave me a nice compliment saying how nice my house is decorated.

We are in the middle of a remodel, well actually, we are beginning to see the end. I had 2 different, older friends, offer me furniture in the last week. We tripled our house size and needed much more furniture. Well, I looked at it all and got 2 chairs, a loveseat/hide-a-bed combo, a marble topped coffee table, and a rocker. All of it is free, dated and I wouldn't change any of it. If I decide the furniture isn't the right color I can cover it with a sheet pretty cheaply. We also got a light for the stairway at a habitat store for $15 and it looks like it was made for the area. Perfect color and everything. I am ecclectic in nature, so it's all good to me.
Fun to do it this way too. I also like to not do all of the "in" things, so, no keeping up with the jones's here...LOL

My initial response was hand-me-down, but actually if I count the pieces in the house we have probably bought more of the furniture. But, nothing very nice, ie expensive. The children are so hard on the furniture I am waiting until they grow up before doing any investing in furniture. I use slipcovers over our FR furniture that has been stained. We were given a dining room table, but had to remove a leaf from it to make it fit in our eating area. Our den is a throwback to the '70s. Everything in it was given to us by family, but at least it has ended up matching and the dark green tweed is very family/pet friendly.
    Style-wise our house is eccletic-traditional.

We have a lot of 'junktiques' in our home. We have 2nd hand deals, garage sale finds and some new furniture. Last year I got the living room furniture I had been dreaming of for ages. I waited till I could pay cash and not go hungry b/c of it. I really love my home. It's sorta decorated in what I call "Grandma's french country house", and has a bit of 'western' thrown in there for good measure.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

We are in the middle of fixing up our fixer home, mostly cosmetic but we need to gut both bathrooms and update them.

We finished the living room and dining area, and I like to call it Bahama style, except we still have no furniture yet.

We are very picky and want tropical style but are too frugal to pay the high prices!

My home is decorated with things I love. It is kinda of a primitive, americana, shabby chic theme....I have antiques that have been handed down but most of my things come from auctions and thrift stores. I love old wooden boxes with unusal handles on them...I have way to many but you can use them in so many different ways. I love to decorate and change things around. It is amazing that you can move things from room to room and have a completely different look....so I try really hard not to bring alot of new things into the house and just use what I have....it is a challenge at times but fun at the same time...

Mine is mostly Victorian. Ninety percent of my furniture are from estates sales. I wait tell the last day of the estate sales to get 50% off. Just bought some two queen ann chairs, that look like I took them out of the furniture store and two beautiful glass iron end tables, for next to nothing. The other 10% is furnished from garage sales, thrift stores, things people have given me or from when my grandmother passed away. I refuse to pay retail price for anything in my home.

Our home is decorated theme wise in primitive/country decor (hunter green/black/mustard yellow/barn red) and our furniture while although not given to use but purchased new were all the best bargains. We are remodeling the kitchen at the moment and all the plywood was given to use for free, we just had to buy the drawer rollers, drawer/cabinet pulls (got a box of these at a yard sale for $3), MDF for the cabinet fronts from Home Depot, etc.... We've only spent $400 for the kitchen remodel which isnt bad for over 21 cabinets/drawers (6 drawers / 14 cabinets and 1 pantry) considering it could have cost us thousands of dollars, had DH not been making everything himself.

~No style yet. I counted up all the furniture in my house that we paid for and the total was less than $1500. Queen bed, dresser in the kids room, couch, loveseat, chair, 4 bookcases, 2 pantry cabinets, 2 shelving units, dining table and 4 chairs, record stand and hutch. Everything else was a gift, hand-me-down or something I had before I married Sean. My favorite decorating styles are Deco, Moroccon and Cuban. I dream of decorating in an actual style! Someday.~

well the apartment we have now is "furnished" for us (thankfully we only need it for a year, because this stuff is OLD)

But before we sold our house the only pieces of furniture that we bought were the girls cribs. DD#1 was only 14 months old when DD#2 was born so we needed two. The first one I bought new (but not expensive for a crib) and the second I got for $25 at a yard sale. Other than that it was all "donations". And nice ones too. A solid wood dining set, a sofa/loveseat combination in near perfect condition (it had been at a rarely used beach house) and bunch of other great stuff. When we moved we gave most of it to a family in our church that had no furniture. We got it free, we gave it free. God will bless us again when we need it.

Somewhat modern, I don't like nicknacks and clutter...just simple.

Bedroom dressers were passed down from grandma. Beds (both) passed down from my mom and dad. Another dresser that's in the living room (holds all kinds of things) is handed down from Hubby's grandmother. The kitchen nook table we have was purchased on sale and with $50 gift card years ago.
We each have a recliner that we bought and charged about 6 years ago. The t.v. was given to my hubby by my father as a gift, along with the t.v. stand. We have 2 computer chairs, one we bought and the other I aquired from just ouside the dumpsted 2 weeks ago...people in our apartment complex all seem to understand the free cycle zone in this corner outside the dumpster. I have placed items out there and returned with a second load to find they have been taken to be used at someone elses house...it's really kind of neat. Well I went out one day and there was this really nice computer chair, nicer then my current one. .. I'm still using it and it's very comfortable.
My mother seems to always by me candles and candle holders and I have a closet full of these things...I decorate with just a few and then change them up once in a while. The pictures on the wall, are of flowers...that I have painted and lots of mirrors.
