Goodwill and Target
I was at Goodwill yesterday. I am buying teacup/saucer sets for my dd's birthday tea party, each girl will have a different cup and get to take it home afterwards. The cup/saucer I was buying was marked $1.99 (most I get for $1.50-$3 each) and the gal working the register argued with me that it shouldn't be marked that low! She actually left to go "check" but ended up giving me that price.
Anyway, she also said that all the Goodwills here (in California) are privately owned and that they now have an agreement with Target. So, Target is sending unsold merchandise to Goodwill and if you see anything new with a barcode tag, it came from Target. I don't know if that holds true for other states or not. At a different Goodwill, I did see a rack of new shirts, all the same, with tags, but didn't really look at them closely.

What a neat idea bzkdz, I think having a tea party birthday party theme is so creative and fun! I have a box of tea cups and saucers that I collected when I was ten years younger and thought I would decorate my whole house with them someday. I spent a few years finding random tea cup patterns and now I have way too many. I am going to save that box of tea cups and saucers now to throw a little girl's tea party someday (off in the future) and I will be able to get rid of my excess afterwards! I might need to have a few parties

I can't believe she would argue with you over a USED saucer that was marked with a price.... geez....
glad you got it for the good price though -
so, what prices are they coming up with for the Target items? If it's too high, it would defeat the purpose of shopping at Goodwill..... ??Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

Our goodwill gets many items from Bells and Dillards. Its a tax write off for them.
Love the tea party idea!!!

I hope my goodwill gets Target stuff. Our goodwill does not have great stuff. They re-arranged the store and got rid of alot of the household stuff, which is what I liked. My goodwill also sells stuff for too expensive (my opinion).

The Goodwill here is overpriced as well. The items from Target are marked higher than the other stuff in the store. Almost everything they sell from Target is priced right at what you get it for at Target to begin with. However, someone must be buying it - their inventory is never the same.

Yah, I wondered if the Target merchandise would actually be any less expensive. I didn't look closely. I wonder if it will be sort of like what happened with Ebay? When Ebay started out, it was a really great place to pick up box lots of kids' clothes, etc., for really cheap. Now it's pretty much everyone selling as a "business" and the prices are a lot higher than they used to be. Hopefully that won't happen with Goodwill, because there really aren't very many thrift stores in my area!

I'm beginning to really dislike our Goodwill Strores. They build these huge NEW buildings and charge way too much for mostly 'junk'. Our Goodwill also sells Target merchandise. Why shouldn't Target donate to Goodwill... what would you do -- sell it on clearance and only make a little bit of profit or donate it and get a write off the full retail price?

Our Goodwill regularly has new items from Target.... usually what I've seen are items that were on clearance from Target and didn't sell there. I once bought a new maternity top for $3.

I did this for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She was really too small for it but it was so beautiful. I sent tea cups and saucers home with candy in them wrapped in sheer fabric. I made her teapot cake. It was such a sweet party.
I used to work at Goodwill when I was pregnant with DS about 8 years ago. Our store has done the Target stuff since they opened. Sometimes they have some really good stuff.

Thanks for letting us know about Target. I didn't know that. I have a Goodwill that is real close.
