Default Goodwill Back to School Sale!

Yesterday (Aug. 11) our Goodwill stores finally had their back to school sale! I had been watching and waiting for weeks. We live within walking distance of a Goodwill store, so I walked since DH works on Saturday and he had the car. I was there when they opened the door at 9am. There were probably 40-50 people waiting for the store to open. I spent three hours shopping. I ended up with 29 items (all clothing was 99¢ each). I got myself a brand new pair of Zena jeans, with the store tags still on them, including the original $39.00 price tag! I also got a pair of nice gray dress pants, a sweater, and three other shirts. For DH, I got a Land's End polo shirt, four pair of dress pants, two pair of nice sweat pants, a Ralph Lauren blue oxford button down shirt, and five other dress and casual shirts. The other ten items were for dd, a pair of jeans (like new, from Old Navy), a nice pair of khaki pants, four pair of pull on pants (with labels from LL Bean, Old Navy, Express, and Limited Too), two sweaters, and two pull-over tops.

I am sure I looked like a "bag lady" walking home with three very full Goodwill bags! DH was so excited to get "new" clothes!

Our SA was having BTS sales too. I didn't buy much clothing, but hit a fill a bag garage sale and did really well with that. I did find a couple of nice pictures and was thrilled with that.

    Congratulations on your great deals!

    Great snags!!!
I am itching to hit my local Goodwill, it's been a while. They never have sales and stopped doing their 1/2 off Tuesdays. But that's ok, kids' clothes are .69 or something like that. 1/2 off day was my favorite though.......

I was hoping to score a new coat, I haven't had a new one for years, but no luck.

You did great. I wish I lived near all the thrift stores....... There is one small one in the next town over and I go there about once a month or so.

Great deals!!!...Our Goodwill is horrible, everything is overpriced and the selection they put out is quite small...they tried to make the place really fancy and it lost something...my friend used to work there and the way they would price things up really ticked her off...

Great prices, My goodwill is normaly priced too high so I shop the sales tags. If the blue tag is half off I only look at blue tags. I get some great finds that way

    Wonderful deals.

Do any of your local churches have thrift shops? I find really low prices there. For example a nwt dress, originally priced $89, for $3. And when you're a Sz 20, that's a treasure!

I only shop at the Goodwill when they are having a sale. The exception is books. Their books are always a good deal, 99¢ for all hardcovers, and 39¢ for all softcovers. I picked up Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover in a like new hardcover for 99¢. Actually, I paid 89¢, because I have one of their 10% discount cards! I also found a copy of Jonni McCoy's "Miserly Moms" in softcover for 39¢. I had been wanting both of those books for a long time. I had checked both out from the library.

~You did GREAT, Deb! I remember you mentioning Goodwill sales a few months back so I've kept my eyes open and our Goodwill didn't have/ isn't having a BTS sale that I know of. The used to have them YEARS ago. And they'd also issue 25% off coupons when you spent $10 or more. My Goodwill has VIP cards. You make 10 purchases on different days and have your card stamped each time and they'll give you a 10% off coupon. Not great but it's something I guess. I pretty much just shop the 1/2 price tags of the day when I'm there. I bought a linen skirt and a designer sweater last time I was there for $4.~

Our Goodwill is too expensive imo. Toddler pants are $2.99 a pair. I can do better than that on the clearance racks and ebay. Plus it's completely disorganized and has a really negative energy about it. I've only gone a few times, but I'm just not impressed. There is some sort of bargain bin behind it though where everything is supposed to be drastically cheaper so I may check that out one day I'm sans kids.

Our Goodwill stores have very high regular prices on clothing. They do the Dollar sales about three times a year, at Easter, Back to School, and Christmas. They are always on a Saturday, and one day only. My Goodwill sells the 10% discount cards. The first one you purchase is $4.00, and good for one year. Then if you renew it before it expires, you can renew for $2.00 a year. It is worth it if you spend more than $20 a year at the Goodwill, which I do. I buy almost all of our clothing, with the exception of socks, underwear, swimwear, and shoes, at one of the aforementioned sales. I usually try to hit all three sales events, sometimes visiting multiple stores on the same day. It is a madhouse, I'll tell you. Imagine 100 or more shoppers in the thrift store at once. I always go alone. I don't see how some people manage with kids in tow.
