2) Press the seam open. (Do this gently, a little bit of steam and the tip of the iron is best for knit fabric as it will stretch out of shape.)
(I finger pressed this, I was too lazy to get out the iron!
)

3) Now you want to match up your seam. Take one end of the tube where the seam is and and match it up with the seam at the top.

4) Do this all the way around the piece, and place a pin through both pieces at the seam.
5) Fold the band in half on the seam, place a pin directly across from it in the fold. You have now halved the piece.
The seam side is on the left in this picture.

6) Match up the 2 pins, and on either side of them at the 2 folds place 2 more pins. You have now quartered up the band. The pins are now an equal distance from each other, disecting the band into 4 equal parts.

Now we will do the same to the crown pieces. (Mine is a little bit crooked circle, I cut it out free hand!
)
You will keep both crown pieces together for this, I forgot and only used one. But I corrected my mistake before I sewed them together.
7) Take two sections of the crown WRONG sides together (this is important) and fold in half, place a pin on each mark.

Then line up the 2 pins and place two more pins on the other two folds. This will quarter up the crown.

8) Take the crown piece you just disected into quarters and place inside the band tube. Match up the pins, and pin in place.

I generally now will put a pin in between each of the four sections also. You will find that the tube portion of the band is smaller than the crown piece. This is why you are using cotton knit fabric. Go ahead and give it a little stretch between the pins and put another pin in the center to hold it in place. Do this all around the piece.
You may want to add even more pins, as your cap will be a lot larger than this model I am using.

Your almost done!!

9) Now you are going to sew a 1/4" seam on the inside of the tube. In other words the band portion is going to be to your left and you will be sewing on the crown side. Like this.

10) Stitch all the way around removing the pins as you come to them. This is usually a slow seam to do as you are sewing in a circle. You may have to stretch the fabric a little between pins as you sew. You want it to lay flat under the presser foot without any tucks or folds. You also have to keep making sure you are not catching the rest of the band (underneath) under the presser foot except for the seam line. It takes a little practice, but is really quite easy to do. (Reinforce the seam if you choose to.)

Let me know if you have any questions or problems.
to you for making these. I think it is a fantastic idea!
For everyone else, I am only interperting (sp) the pattern. The original pattern can be found at http://www.hancockfabrics.com. Go to free projects, then on the bottom right hand side of the screen there is a link to the Chemo Cap pattern.
