    Default Sewing Kit Recommendations???

Hi all! I am in desperate need of a new sewing kit. The one that I am currently using is approximately 47 years old. It was my grandmothers and held up well for a long time, but now it is falling apart. It is this type of kit: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Jobar-Sewing-Kit/dp/B0007W7OUK"]Amazon.com: Sewing Kit: Kitchen & Dining[/ame] However, the sides have now fallen off beyond repair, etc.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, solid, dependable, practical sewing kit? I'm putting one on my Christmas list, but I think dh will need a little guidance.

Thanks in advance for your help! (I realize she's knitting, but I didn't feel like looking through all the smilies for the lady on the sewing machine)

Cant you just get a new one of the same? The price is $9.99 which isn't that bad but if not, try craigslist or freecycle, I am sure some place might have them... and if FREE... all the better

Do you want one just like that again? (I've never seen that before!) You could put a sewing basket on your list - Joann's has tons of them in the store. Then you could take yourself shopping to fill it

And if you decide to go this route, sign up for Joann's fliers so you can get their coupons (either 40% or 50% off). They often have notions sales too (50% off).

Guess I should have specified. I HATE this sewing box. It's a huge pain in the a$$ to put back together, even before it was broken. Looking for something fresh and new.

I was browsing around Bed Bath and Beyond this weekend and came across this sewing kit. It looks like it's very compact and something handy to have in your living room (where I do most of my sewing by hand). It's decorative too. It's almost $20, but would be cheaper with a coupon. I found my sewing basket at a yard sale for just a few dollars several years ago.

I use one of the Caboodle's make up cases... it looks like a tackle box. I found one at a thrift store for $3 -- it's purple with teal colored handle and inside it has lime green trays. I keep the thread and needles in the trays and spare thread and scissors in the bottom. Works for me.
