Ahhhhhhhh I think I've flipped
Ok here we go.
I am getting married next August ( finally for sure )
at a Renaissance Fair.
I will be making my own dress ( I don't sew very much )
Does anyone have simple instructions on how to sew a
Tudor Bridal Gown? LOL
I have looked at McCalls patterns.com and they have some really nice ones.
I do not want to be Queen Elizabeth the 1st. ( the queen at the fair is already her)
I'm not sure I want drresses that bulky either.
Have I lost my mind? ( my SIL to be is an excellent seamstress
and I'll have her do their dresses) I need 5 of them done.
forgo!!. The colors__ underdress will be silver with a royal blue over dress.Last edited by Holly; 08-12-2008 at 10:23 AM.

Can you post links to some of the patterns you like? Your sil could probably mix and match the items you like the best. (ie, these sleeves on that bodice with this skirt and that train... etc.) Plus, I wanna see, I wanna see!!!
Will this be a dress costume that you will wear for several years? Keep in mind the weather at the Ren Faires willl you be wearing it on hot days as well as cool? My gown was a McCalls pattern that was fairly easy to sew. You can choose a basic pattern and accessorize with ribbon and bead work to make it more Tudor~ish.
There are also bodices and dresses that have sleeves that are laced on and can be removed. This might be an option if it will be a multi use dress.Last edited by Ceashels; 08-12-2008 at 11:10 AM.

http://www.mccallpattern.com/list/costumes/all.htm
These aren't really what I want but i couldn't find any other pattern places.
so ...#M5731 is the closest to what i have in mind without that head piece ( not renaissance )
then for my women 1 girl
#M5444 ( would love to work this on into a wedding gown)
Yes it will be worn every year up there ( afterwards )
We love it there and just get taken back into time and history. ( its only open July and August)Last edited by Holly; 08-12-2008 at 11:28 AM.

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!
I enjoy the Renaissance Fair and I bet that will be a memorable wedding! I think the dress pattern you picked out can be altered to what you want. Good luck on pattern searching!~*Michelle*~

So what parts of M5444 do you want to incorporate into your wedding gown? And what parts of M5731?
The components are very different for each pattern.
The lower waist on M5731 vs the Empress waist on M5444.
The Princess seaming of the bodice on M5731 vs the single piecing of the bodice with bust darts on M5444.
Sleeves are ruffled or gathered. The ones with the trailing ruffle may be more of a movement hindrance in the long run (we have port-a-pots at our renfest and I wouldn't want to take them to the bathroom with me...
). I don't think they would work with the gathered sleeve of M5444. So that may need to be an either or choice.
Both have a "false" underskirt. It is only in the front.
If you wanted the contrasting bodice of M5731, your SIL could probably lower the neckline of M5444 and sew in some of the contrasting material you will use for the underskirt. Or use the contrasting material in an applique over the bodice. Either way, this can be embellished with embroidery, bead work, ribbons, etc to "upgrade" the dress. After all it is all about accessorizing, right?
Hope that helps give you things to think about. I like both of your choices (though I'm partial to M5444 - It lookes more Renaissance and less fairy tale to me).

I found this site, http://www.renaissancecostumesclothing.com/ online. I thought you might enjoy searching it for ideas. It also has lots of accessories you might could buy cheaper than making.

I have to go on a strict eating ( not diet ) life change here
to fit a size 12.
I am changing my eating because I want to lose 40 lbs and
firm up.
( I'm 4 ft 11 1/2 inches and wheigh 165 )
I'm 55 ( will be 56 ) years old and don't want to be a blimp on my day.
I'll try to put anothe rlink here that shows the dress style I want better.
I love this look (maybe not so poofy ) not that crown

That is really beautiful. The price for the basic Court Dress is relatively cheap and comes with an unadorned solid satin underskirt. Would you be able to purchase the basic dress then have SIL adorn it for you? Stitching on beads and lace trim wouldn't be that difficult. I wonder if they can email you a picture of just the basic dress? That way you can see the possibilities in it.
Granted the basic dress is still a chunk of money but you aren't wearing it just one day. It will be used for a good long time and probably more than just once per RenFaire Season. The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

I've thought about that. I wish I could.
We're getting married at the Ren faire then the following week having the reception about 2 miles from our home.
We have a big family and hardly anyof them would be able to go.
So thats twice right there. LOL
I think I may contact them to see what I can do..Last edited by Holly; 08-12-2008 at 05:23 PM.
