Smile Mother daughter time -- sewing style-- bascially free

Daughter and I had a great few hours of mommy and daughter time via our just back from the shop from its tune up sewing machine.

So here is a summary of what we made:

    Jeans shorts for Daughter
    three skirts for her dolls
a pair of yoga pants for her doll
    two pockets her bulletin board
one doll pants pattern - $0

Fun Mommy daughter time and sewing lessons - Priceless

    Detailed story for those interested.
    Here is what we had:
One pair of daughter's hole in the knee jean ( this pair had elastic cuffs) and one pair or her outgrown yoga style pants and some elastic from Son's ready to throw out underwear. And one daughter who wanted needed some one on one time with Mommy and a Mommy (me) who had missed her sewing machine and of course wanted to spend time with Daughter.

We had no patterns just our imagination.

We started by making Daughter's holey jeans into jeans shorts.

Than Daughter took the cut of part and sewed to jeans dresses for her doll. basically only a hem with a straight stich Daughter can just now reach the sewing machine and the petal at the same time. She was so excited to do this all by herself.

Then I made two pockets for her bulletin board with the leftover parts of the cut off leg.

We had so much fun having the dolls have a fitting that we moved on to make another pair of pants for her American Girl dolls. This time we used the yoga style pants she outgrew. We didn't have a pattern so we made one. Daughter found this very fascinating as I explained they whys and hows of the pattern (we saved this pattern for use later also). We used the elastic form Son's underwear for the elastic waist on the doll pants. Daughter asked if she could use the buttons that had been on the pants to decorate her dolls pants. So she learned how to sew on a button. That turned out very cute and her doll loved it.

Her other doll was jealous so I looked at he rest of the leftover yoga pants and made a straight pencil style skirt for the other doll. This turned out very cute and the elastic waist of the original yoga pants had a cute detailing and this made a very cute waist for the doll skirt.

All in all a very fun time was had by all.

That sounds like so much fun! I always figured I would miss out on the "mother/daughter" sewing thing, since I have two boys. But surprisingly, my boys are really interested in learning to sew. I guess since they see me doing it constantly, they are curious.

So Friday, they went to the fabric store to pick out fabric for their very own pillows. Then Friday night, we (I should say they) made their own pillows. They had a blast!

Oh that sound like it was a blast.

My son likes to make jean shorts. He also tried to jump in on mother daughter time and gave us his thoughts on what doll things we should make out of daughter's old pants. Daughter always wants to make doll clothes. Son was thinking a sleeping bag for Daughter's dolls.

Sounds like fun days for all of you! How old are each of your kids? My ds made a quilt when he was 8. He had watched me make so many that he decided he needed to do one also. When he asked and I said ok, he went running to my closet to get fabric, then patterns, etc. He literally wanted to do it right now. DD has never wanted to go near the sewing machine LOL Fun memories
