I think it is adorable!! You could make matching napkins too. I think that it would keep it together and fresh. The sandwich would only be in there for a few hours anyway. AND!! it makes an instant placemat. I am going to make them up and give them as gifts for christmas... with the matching napkin of coarse!!
Thanks for the tip!! I didnt know about that website..... but now I do!!!

I'm not sure what clear vinyl is made of at Joann's but you can take any kind of material and use the thin wonder under and iron them together; with the material; then the wonder under and then the vinyl. The wonder under turns clear. They actually make a product that does this but this is the much way cheaper way to make it!

I like those a lot, and I'm sure they would keep the sandwiches together just fine. Plus they would eliminate the need for disposable sandwich bags, wrap, etc.
Thanks

I like it. I think it would work as it isn't in there for a long time. Firefly has a great idea with the matching napkins!

i like the matching napkin idea too... and how about (thinking for kids or heck some of us!) a matching (or contrasting) lunchbag?
add some pockets on the outside.
you could use those velcro "dots" (or squares) OR if you dont like those, tie some up with shoe strings (cleaned or new!) or twine.
a drink holder/cooler (insulated inside) or a drawstring bottle holder (again could be insulated).
oooh a full picnic set!!! LOL
i'm full of ideas... now where'd that energy go??? LOL

Great idea - think I will be it on my summer sewing list!!

I love the idea of the whole matching picnic set! I might have to try to make one for this summer! I actually just got a ton of clear vinyl on sale at Joann in the remenents bin. Had no idea what i was going to do with it, just couldn't pass it up for the price! Tought it would be handy to have on hand! Now I know what i am going to do with it!
Thanks!

There was something similar in family fun. Too many steps to make in my opinion. No to mention oil cloth
The pthalates are too high for use by children My wrap-n-mat is one of my favorite lunch items! I think I'll use my wrap-n-mat as a pattern (sew four sides and close with velcro.

While I like this as a gift - did you know you can wrap bread in fabric and it will keep for days? So why not just buy a few bandannas and tie up the sandwich which would definitely keep til lunch?

I make similar ones and use them. Mine are more of an octagon shape with velcro to hold it together. I make mine from 100% cotton, I'm a bit leary about using PUL or vinyl on my food. Cotton works just fine and keep the sandwich nice and fresh, too. I also make cloth baggies to keep other lunch stuff in.
You can also use nylon fabric (kind of like what wind pants are made from) in place of PUL or vinyl. It is safe plus a bit water resistant.Nicole, Mom of 4 ages 6-16~

It would be a matter of finding a food safe liner.
I *think* goretex would be safe as they use it in surgicla repairs in the body..lol. But need to do more research.
