If you buy fabric and/or sewing supplies online, where?
Where do you buy fabric online? We only have 2 fabric stores in our town and they both seem pricey. I'm thinking after making my 1st few projects I'd like to try a basic quilt. I've looked on Craigslist and Freecycle and it's a no-go.

Hancock fabric you can buy on line. Also have you check out ebay or shopgoodwill.com the craft section.

I've actually bought fabric off of Ebay with some good luck. The websites that I use most often are FabricDepot or CraftConn. Keepsakequilting is FABULOUS, they have some absolutely beautiful stuff, it can be pricey though. I've also ordered from ConnectingThreads. OK, yes, I'm addicted to fabric....

Hmmm...have you tried the thrift stores in town? Sometimes there's some great 100% cotton fabric in bedding, curtains, clothing that can be cut apart for quilting purposes. And sometimes they actually have fabric lengths people are getting rid of.

I really like www.sewmamasew.com They are one of the few online shops that I have seen where you can order as little as 1/4 yard. I have ordered once from them and I was very pleased.
Also www.etsy.com has quite a few sellers who sell fabric. Many of them are willing to do a customized listing of your choice.
I really like this seller in particular:

Here is another good etsy seller:

Here is another really good online retailer. They have 1 yard MINIMUM cut and only ship UPS. They do carry a wide variety of fabrics and I have been happy with what I got from them. Very e mail friendly also if you have questions. http://www.jandofabrics.com/Last edited by Teresa T; 04-29-2009 at 12:06 AM.

If you have a Walmart near you they donate to the Salvation Army. If the Salvation Army is having 25% off linens /fabric you can score some great deals.

You say you've looked on freecycle? Does that mean you've actually posted a request for material or just looked for folks offereing? If you haven't asked try. You might be surprised. I was with 12 garbages full of material. The lady emailed me and asked if I'd take that many. She didn't want to post them, but when she saw my post looking she emailed me. I've got tons of stuff now. How close are you?
