cloth diapers
Has anyone made cloth diapers? Where can I get a free pattern, and have you used it? My baby is due in Oct. and I was hoping to sew some up. I used cloth with my 1st ds, but that was 17 yrs. ago. I used the gerber diapers, a liner and plastic pants. I'm so confused! Do I need to make a diaper cover? Or am I supposed to use plastic pants. What about a liner?
I know it sounds stupid, but I'm not sure what to do. I don't know of anyone who uses cloth diapers around me. Help!!!!Last edited by lilk; 06-21-2009 at 12:45 AM.

Hi, I make cloth diapers. They do not need separate covers or plastic pants. They have velcro fasteners or snap fasteners. And they are so cute. I have newborn, small, medium and large. I have never used liners for them and they are very easy to clean and take care of.

I personally liked the liners/doublers (heavy pee-er my boy was). They were made from something resembling terry cloth. I also used rice sheets. They were nice for scooping the messy stuff as things became more solid (sorry, kins gross). We used Bumpkins (pre-FV days
) covers and doublers and Gerber diapers. Not as frugal as I could have been.... Maybe next time *crossing fingers there is a next time*. Good luck to you!

Diaperswappers dot com is an invaluable resource for cloth diapering. You can find answers to all of your questions. There is even a crafting section where you can get tips on making your own diapers. There are some links to free patterns too!

I haven't been able to find the liners in quite awhile BUT you can save all your used fabric softener sheets (like Bounce) and they are exactly the same as the old style liners.
