What would you do with this fabric?
My niece sent it to me. She bought it in Africa. It's 34" wide by 4.5 yards long with a 30" repeating pattern...

Wow, it's beautiful!! I think it would look great as just about anything, but the first thing that came to my mind was a nice book bag. Depending on the type of material, it would make a really pretty summer/camp-type shirt, as well.

It's a cotton print. The print would be lost in a small book bag though. It's 30" across that star halfway into the bars that separate the designs.
I suppose I could cut four of the designs (there are five on the piece) apart and reorganize them to form the center of a quilt. Then use the remains with other fabric to make the quilt large enough for her bed. Then send it back to her...hmmm...a shirt sounds simpler...Last edited by peanut; 06-25-2009 at 07:02 PM.

I was thinking more of an over-the-shoulder larger book bag.
Maybe a table runner?DH aka Mad Hen

I think this would make a lovely swimsuit cover up or maybe a long gathered skirt?

I agree it needs something large to show off that gorgeous patter. Maybe a swag curtain, a throw blanket or a tablecloth.

It's gorgeous. My first thought would be to lay it down and just roll around on it.
You could use it for the back of a lap quilt, though you'd have to piece it... that would leave some to use for the front, mixed with coordinating fabrics.
You have enough to make a fun summery dress. Something with simple lines to show off the print.

I'm thinking long skirt/sarong or wrap around type of thing so you cut as little as possible.

Its gorgeous peanut. Too bad its narrow, please dont cut it up. Could you make a baby quilt or a beach blanket. Maybe adding a different texture backing or quilt it. It would be pretty in a sunroom covering loungers if you put scotch guard on it. Its just so happy looking.

Aren't you the lucky dog. I'd make a dress or skirt out of it. Something fun to wear.
Then I'd use the scrapes in a throw or quilt.
