    Talking Button Score!

I was helping a friend at a garage sale today and saw this old tobacco tin. I picked it up and it was heavy! Well, guess why? I opened it up and went 'oooooh'. It was full of old buttons. My friend gave it to me. Buttons that are 50 - 100 years old. Fascinating to look at. I spent this afternoon with another friend dividing them into colours and types and organizing them in general. Oooooh!...

Great score! I think old buttons are really cool, and if you are into sewing, they can be very helpful!

I love stuff like that. I have an old tobacco tin from my grandpa. I gave the buttons to my cousin. I was 12 and at grandmas. I said what's this. She said just old buttons. I dumped it out and inside the buttons was grampas false teeth partial. I dropped it and screamed. My grandma laughed and laughed. Like I said I gave the buttons to my cousin.

Oh what a find! Do you know anything about them?

My aunt took a bunch of my moms old buttons, many of which had been on the clothes sew sewed for me, made a heart shaped pillow and just sewed a bunch of them on it. I love it and think of mom and her sewing every time I look at it.

I love old buttons! My grandma used to keep tins of them as well. Along with zippers that she salvaged from clothes beyond repair. I always love looking at the CRAZY colors from decades past!

Thanks for the idea of what to do with them Frugal Franny. My friend was over yesterday afternoon and she helped me sort the white ones. I had been sorting by colour before she arrived. There are some real cute ones. A couple of maple leaf ones that are carved really struck my eye. And these huge almost 2" diameter blue buttons for a coat. I have just the fabric to put those on! Now if I dare to wear the finished garment in public is another matter! I wonder if my buttonholer makes a buttonhole that big?

Nuisance: I might just have you over one day...if I ever finish organizing them!

MM: well...give me awhile and you might just get some pics! Some of them are rather unique. There's some that look like small mother-of-pearl that may have come from gloves...they're so tiny.
