Cool Sewing Club! - August 2009

~How many unfinished projects do you have right now? Probably more than you care to admit, right? Yeah, me too.
As a group, let's focus on completing projects in August. Post your projects and progress to this thread. Pictures are very much appreciated but not required.
Newbies are welcome in the sewing circle so post away!
So what's on your stitch list?~

~Here's what I have started(as far as I know anyway. Scared to look in all my totes and find more projects! )

    t-shirt quilt
    2 denim quilts
10 washcloths from tees, cut out
    ottoman cover
    3 items to mend

~As an additional challenge I'm also gonna tackle the school type stuff I have on my stitch list:

drawing pad/colored pencil organizers for kids
    washable sandwich wraps
    t-shirt backpack

~And to make it even more fun I have to piece a baby quilt so I have 3 months in which to get the hand quilting done.

What are you making the wraps from? Is this a 'bag' or what?

Well, being new to sewing, I can't say I have much in the way of UFO's. I do, however, have a goal to make a number of items for my craft booth, and the one I'm working on now is an eye-pillow with removable scented aromatherapy pads. I've finished the prototype through hand-sewing, but now that I have a template, I am hoping to learn how to use a sewing machine to speed things up a bit.

If I CAN learn how to operate this sophisticated piece of equipment , I'm going for a goal of at least one dozen eye-pillows by the end of August, with three sets of pads each. If I don't master the art of machine-sewing, I'll try for four eye-pillows and twenty-four pads.

~This is the pattern I'm using: http://www.craftstylish.com/item/432...-sandwich-wrap . I'm not sure if I'll buy some PUL for these or just use a double layer of cotton. I'm just absolutely sick sick sick of hand washing baggies!
The backpack is just a simple thing I saw in the "Generation T" book. Here's something similar: ~

Nuisance - for the backpacks....I'm making them for Christmas presents by covering the many that I have that are made out of nylon - the type with advertising. I love that type of bag and think they'll make great gifts. Mahalo for the pattern for the reusable sandwich wrapper - terrific!!

    Cool link, nuisance26!! Thank you!!

I have completed six pillow bodies already. Did figure out that I have to hand-sew the tops, so that I don't end up with a seam showing. Because each pillow wall is two fabrics, I can hand-sew the top, folded over, but only go through the interior three layers, leaving the outer layer untouched. No way to do that with the sewing machine.

Okay, I am hitting the ground running. I now have a dozen of the pillow bodies done (except for the hand-stitching). I'm a sewing machine fool!

Hope to start working on the pads tomorrow. With a dozen pillows, I'll need approx 72 pads to allow for 3 pairs per pillow.
