What I made for a Birthday gift
I made these this week for my best Girlfriends Birthday that is in 3 weeks. Plus today I crocheted her a red mesh/net pot scrubbie today. (1st one I ever made, lol.)
Anyway, my gf's kitchen is decorated in red and apples and I had some Debbie Mumm apple fabric and used scraps/stash for the rest. I would have also made her dish towels but she prefers those microfiber towels and dishcloths.
This is 2 quilted potholders. 1 quilted ovenmit, 1 plastic grocery bag holder, & 1 candle mat. I use ironing board cover cloth for the backs of potholders and I use the thick batting to help insulate. I used 3 thickness' of plain muslin between the main fabric for a thicker candle or mug mat. I made the grocery bag holder much smaller than most people do because she doesn't shop much and uses them daily for her small trash can in the kitchen.

Those are great gifts - made even more so because you made them!!

I got the idea of making her the gifts from my visit to her home last weekend. I noticed that she had a plastic grocery store bag filled with plastic grocery bags hanging from her kitchen cabinet door and thought..."how tacky"...lol.
So I decided to make her a bag holder to match her kitchen and then the rest of things just exploded from there.
She really does appreciate my homemade gifts. Last year I made her a Warren Kimble saltbox (folkart artist) tapestry pillow for her antique living room chair and it's still there so I know she likes it.
My GF doesn't know how to sew so she is always amazed at the things I make, lol."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."
