Sewing Hospital Gowns
~I decided that I'm going to spoil myself and make three hospital gowns for when I have my baby. Those horrible old blue things with the seagulls on them are so depressing and clinical and I want something happier when my child arrives. This free pattern : Lazy Girl Designs - Free Hospital Gown Patterns calls for 3 yards of 100% cotton for each so I'm thinking that they will cost $45 or so to make. But won't I look pretty?
Has anyone ever made them or used this pattern?
Yey, I get to shop for fabric!~~Constance

Ok that doesn't sound as frugal as it could be but definitely does sound tres cool! I'd love to see pics when you've completed one.
My mom made her own version of a button down moo--moo that she still wore around the house while we were growing up.
I think she altered them into sleeveless housecoats with pockets.

Glad to see you know to use 100% cotton . . but be prepared for hospital staff resistance to letting you use them, as they aren't 100% certain the fabric you used is 100% cotton
For those that don't know -- due to some medical equipment, polyester, acrylic, etc. can cause micro shocks and in some instances death in patients wearing less than 100% cotton. BTW - make sure your thread is cotton too.

~Thanks Sunshine. I'd read that about the fabric content so I will be sure to get 100%. All cotton is comfier anyway. I'll pick up some all cotton thread as well while I'm out, great tip!
I think I may look at flat sheets again and compare them to yardage. I've been able to get some awesome deals on fabric I needed a lot of that way.~~Constance

~Oh, I'll definitely post pictures! It's something I thought about doing with my other two and never got around to. I didn't make much at all actually for my other two kids, not even a diaper bag.
I'm always making things for everyone else and not for me but this time I'm gifting myself!
I'm practically having nightmares about those blue seagulls so that's extra motivation!~~Constance
