    Default Serger help needed please!

I am trying to serge cloth napkins. I was given free quilting cotton material. I am going to do 2-sided napkins since the cloth is thin. I cannot get the serger set right so that the thread doesn't look like big bunched up loops of thread on the under side. I was wondering what settings I should be using and what kind of thread? I was using regular cones of maxilock. I keep messing with the buttons on the serger but it either bunches up the fabric or the thread looks too loose, even on the tightest settings! I have a Janome 644D if that helps. Oh, and I have the book but the drawings in it look NOTHING like the problems I am having.

I have no idea about the serger, but I'd suggest washing the cotton fabric first so it doesn't shrink and curl the edges after washing.

Well, I switched the loopers to wooly nylon, removed the left needle, and set it to rolled hem. It came out way better!

No help........and there are several people here that have sergers.........and know how to use them. You should get some answers..........however, mine is in the closet so I can't help.

Have you googled it to see if there is help on you tube or somewhere?

And if Maui answers..........don't believe her......she doesn't know how to use her's either!!

~I just spent 20 minutes trying to find my serger manual to give you the proper tension adjustments but I can't find it. Drives me crazy when I can't find something! Urg.
Anyway, I looked up your machine and apparently you don't have to adjust or remove anything for a rolled hem. That's pretty cool.
When I have tension problems I just re-thread everything and that seems to do the trick .
Glad you're getting better results with a thread switch!~
