the gift i gave that seemed most appreciated and is still used 9 years later are the rice boo boo bags i made for my kids and neices and nephews that you can heat up in microwave and use for a stomach ache - earache or just for warming up your bed if its a real cold night - we are missing all but 1 here so i may remake them for my kids this year .
the were about 8x8" in size made of a medium wt denim and i put their names on them with fabric paint.
others that went over well was an old suitcase decoupaged with american girl doll pix ( after being spraypainted ) that i gave my older dd for carrying/ storing her AG doll stuff - did the same for younger dd that same year with baby doll stuff and a few years later for my youngest son with Thomas the tank pix decoupaged on it .
i once covered diaper wipe boxes with fabric to make either make coupon boxes ( one sil still has this 15 years later ) or for kids treasure chest type of things and for my neices i put in cheaply bought costume jewelry for a play jewelry box .
those girls are now out of college working FT now so that was wow almost 20 years ago i did that Lol !!
i dont make things i wont enjoy making .
i dont do much crafting anymore as last time i did i dont think it was really appreciated much - i didnt expect a parade but a hey this is nice you made this yourself etc might have been nice - my friend and mom likes theirs but dhs family didnt seem to dislike them but since i spent hours on making them and burnt up my fingers with a hot glue gun in my search for perfection -( I made tea cup pincushions ) i decided to just watch clearance racks etc from now on . Takes less time - no more $ and doesnt burn my fingers LOL
now they are not mean people or only wanting high $ gifts in fact these were not even gifts i was expected to give just little thank yous to the kids godmothers - just think they dont get it because none of them ever craft .
the way i figure it gift giving is not about ME but about THEM and about something they will like use / like so i decided to seek out big bargains from now .
i figured they cost me about 2$ each to make and i am lucky enough to live in an area with 2 malls nearby where i can probably find a 20$ item for 2$ on sale if i keep my eyes open year round . IN bad weather i often mall walk for exercise and can go n and out and not spend a dime but also can find a good deal while walking.
i on the other hand would love home made stuff LOL*~Debbi~*
