Thank you ladies for responding, I love to hear how many of you sew, it is my passion! I sew mainly clothing for myself now and occasionaly for my dh. I used to sew all the time for my nieces, nephews, Mom, and my sister but I haven't done that in a long time. I also sew all of my home decor. I have done a little quilting before, or rather I have made quilt tops before. With CJ's tutorial, I am catching the fever!!

Learning - I will help you if I can. What has come apart, jeans or workshirts etc.. and where in the seam has it come apart??
And you're right, a sewing machine pays for itself in no time!

Kathis - I have limited myself going to JoAnn's for about the last year or so, mainly because I can't control myself! I didn't even know they had come out with pattern's called "Sewing For Dummies". I'm going to go and have a look at them!

For those who are learning, a great resource is your church. We have a quilting group and I know of 2 girls who come just for the practice, they are always bringing their projects that have them stumped and we all help them. So if you need help with a project ask around at church (or the library) and most of us who sew would be glad to help you learn!!!

Hi, my name is Darlene & I am a sewing misfit.I'm not very good at sewing & get frustrated easily. I also feel awkward with patterns, material layout and directions.
I'd like to feel comfortable sewing, and be able to actually make something. Is there help for a sewing misfit like me?

I can mend and sew things in a straight line. I have made a lot of pillows, some curtains and some misc decorations. I have tried on numerous occations to make clothing with no success. My grandmother was a seamstress for a bridal boutique before her death and could sew anything. I did not inherit her talent.

I can sew just about anything and sometimes even surprise myself. I love to sew and wish I could do it more. It is theraputic for me. But I would never attempt a wedding dress unless I had about 2 years to complete it.lol

My Mom is the expert seamstress. She can sew anything, mend anything, quilt, and upholster. Mom made my wedding dress and some of my sisters dresses too. She reupholsterd our couch, chairs and dining table chair seats every two or 3 years (with 7 kids in the house and living on a farm we destroyed them fairly often).

I learned to sew from my Mom and two fantastic home ec. teachers in high school who had more patience than my Mom. LOL
