Smile With all my allergies i am thinking...

about making some hankies to use instead of going through tissue every week.
How would one go about this?
I have some material, but I am not sure what fabric would work best.
I think I would like to begin with 21, 3 for each day so I can have 1 load of them to wash each week.
I know dh is gonna think I have lost it, but the majority of tissue use here is due to my allergies and that will save a bit, plus make less trash.
    Any ideas?

It would work great I bet. I have seen hankies made out of all kinds of materials, I think cottons, linen, and silk generally seem to be the most common. Do your dh or your ds's have hankerchiefs? Maybe you can model yours after theirs in size and shape, although it wouldn't matter what size you did, as long as you were happy about it. Do you plan on monograming some? You could add lace edges if you wanted (lace can be bought by the yard in usually the same area in a store as the ribbon by the yard). I think for the edges, if i were doing thm, i'd get bias tape or do a rolled edge. What were your thoughts??

I think cottons would be most comfortable on your nose

I use cottons but I also use flannelette pieces left over from making pj's. Its nice and soft.

I'm always making more hankies, thats all we use here.

It really does save $$. We use to go through so much Kleenex but now I don't even purchase it.

All you need to do it cut material to the size you want and then make a hem around each side. I do a double hem so that when they are washed, you don't get any ravelling.

I have all different sizes because the material is leftovers from making pj's. You just never know what size you'll get when you take one from the pile on our cupboard.

I agree cottons and linens would work, but compare prices against already made ones. My dad uses them all the time and you can find them at the dollar store cheap. He always get hankies and diet pepsi for Christmas..lol.
