Question I have a sewing question...

I am trying to do the blanket stitch, but I don't know how to start...

It says here to start with a few running stitches, but won't that show in my project if I do that?...I only want the blanket stitch to show...

    Help!

Here is the place where I found the information...

    Thanks!

Great stitch guide Lucie, thank you!

But I have to agree with you, I think the running stitches would show too.

    Anyone with ideas on this??

I wonder if you could do the running stitches very very small? and then when you get around back to where you started couldn't you cover them some with the blanket stitch before you tie it off?

Lucie, you said "a few running stitches". Does that mean only a couple, then you'd do your blanket stitch. I think you would only do the running stitch a couple of times and then switch over to your blanket stitch and go from there.

Wouldn't you think thats what you'd do ladies?

Yes I do CJ, but if you are working with a contrasting thread (for decoration) wouldn't it still show?

Maybe if you did like Melissa said and made maybe 2 stitches really small and then worked over them?? I know they want you to do the running stitches to 'lock' the end down, just not sure what it will look like.

...mmm...I'm trying to understand....tell me. Have any of you ever done a craft with blanket stitches? If so, did you do some running stitches or the blanket ones?....

I'll do like Melissa said...tomorrow I will practice on a scrap...but I'm not even sure how to do the blanket stitch...I tried, but it looks funny...

I'll be back tomorrow to say if it worked.

    Thanks everyone!

I have done it, lets see if I can explain...

poke needle in about 1/4 inch from edge, then point needle toward the edge of the fabric. Catch the needle in a loop of the thread and it kind of looks like an l at first, the next one looks like a square with three sides, hope that helped, wish you were here. It is easy once you get going.

I finished a fleece blanked for my niece last year with the blanket stitch. I just did plain blanket stitch. I didn't do any running stitches to start it. If I could show you you would understand, but I am not good at explaining things. Just do what Robin said LOL.
