    Question Floor Pillow/Bean Bag Question......

I recently purchased some upholstery (sp) fabric to re-do my dining room chairs......after further investigation, I realize that it would be more of an undertaking than I want to do - not the re-covering of the seat, but it will require a total overhaul of the chair itself....our dining room suite was my Grandmother's when I was a toddler ~ yes, that old!

ANYWAY ~ with the fabric I've decided to make floor pillows for the girlies......which leads me to a couple of questions......

    1) I'm thinking it would be better to surge these since they'll be for romping.....opinions??

    2) Anyone have any experience using packing peanuts (the UPS kind) as a stuffing for a floor pillow??

Looking forward to the outpouring of knowledge from you gals!!

    Debbie,
I don't know about the surging part but I am guessing anything you can do to make those seams stronger - the better it will be.

As for the packing peanuts - They used those on Trading Spaces this past weekend. Hey if it's good enough for Trading Spaces, I'd give it a try. They actually took the bean bag type floor pillow to the packaging store and had them fill it up with the packing peanuts.

Good luck, I'm sure the girls will love them.

Debbie, the surging would be easier and look really neat , but I might be concerned about it getting caught on something, like a pet claw or zipper and coming undone.....The packing peanuts sounds like a good idea to me, especially if you could do what Pat said in the above post.....

I think I'm going to do the serging thing....the girls are pretty rough on stuff - yes, I know it's hard to believe!

Also - I failed to mention (blame it on Ny-Quil!) that I have a 110 gallon bag (the guys use these on their field problems - who knows what for!) FULL of packing peanuts! (the Admiral & Mrs. Bush mailed us a computer ~ Now we're competing with Sara & Gabe! 3PC's & a Laptop!) I eBay a lot, but I'm never going to use all of these!

And Carolyn - shamey on you for suggesting another use for my precious bubblewrap! You're just lucky that the other Debbie's not here missy!!

Well - I'll post pictures after my venture is complete! Thanks gals! Knew I could count on you!

Debbie, you have been holding out on us, you have a serger????

I would sew the seam with the regular machine and serge it, especially being floor pillows/bean bag chairs. JMO

Yes Dee - can you believe it!! I've had a serger for about 10 years!! (this is actually my second one!) I used to make all the girlies clothes - nothing better than the time everyone had matching outfits for church ~ I made ties & vests for the guys & dresses & hair stuff for the girls! It was so sickeningly cute it was gross!

Guess it's time to drag it back out again!! I just bought a table at Target so I can have my machine & my serger set up & ready all the time.....(actually I bought the table a while back but didn't have room for it because of that dang monstrous tree in my living room!)

I'm eBaying everything that's not bolted down to (1)bring in some extra cash & (2)clear out some space for new projects!! Hopefully, before too long, I'll have wonderful pictures of my incredible creativity to post! (Sudafed's kickin' in!!)

I'll do the straight stitch then the serge - I trust your opinion!!
