Default Home Decor and Craft items I have made.....

First let me apologise for the quality of the pics. I take lousy pictures as it is, but it was dark in the house too!

This is about the only craft items I make on a regular basis. These are the catnip toys I make for my kids. Simple, simple, simple!
    http://www.frugalvillage.com/photopo....php?photo=722

These toppers I made about 12 years ago. Very expensive fabric and I lined these. I'm still not tired of them yet!
    http://www.frugalvillage.com/photopo....php?photo=723

Here are the seat cushions to match. I also made a tablecloth, the center is dark green fabric and because it wasn't wide enough, I added a strip of the floral fabric to each side down the length.

These are my kitchen curtains out of gingham, I also made just the valance for the backdoor.
    http://www.frugalvillage.com/photopo....php?photo=726

I had to make up a pattern to fit this weird sized window above my sink. The center part is just 2 strips of fabric sewn together and I add a snap. I open them up to block out the morning sun in the summer.

These are my ugly livingroom curtains, but they were very frugal! I got actual curtains cheap ($4 a pair) at a discount store years ago. I took them apart and used them like fabric. I lined them with fabric I had around the house, they don't all match but are close. So I was able to make curtains for 6 windows for under $25 for my livingroom. I'm sick of them as they are too dark and have fabric to make new ones, when I get around to it.

This is a antique rocking chair my sil gave me. I love it. It is very low to the ground and perfect for me. The cushion set on it was old and falling apart so I took some quilted fabric and replaced the piece on the chair and the upholstery tacks, then used the original seat and back cushions to make new ones. I did this over almost 20 years ago, I think it needs an update.

So ~ can I be your younger sister & just suck up every ounce of talent you have! You've obviously forgotten more about sewing than I will ever know! I'm altering my wishlist to include talent! You'd laugh if you saw the curtains I've made....I do!!

Everything looks great! I think I might whip up some of those catnip toys for Butters - even I could pull that off!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent, home, and babies - they couldn't help but get in a few shots, huh?!!

    Debbie,

    For the catnip toys:

    2-4" squares of scrap fabric
    little bit of fiberfill
    dried catnip
    sewing machine
    thread
    pinking shears

    1) Put the 2 squares of fabric wrong sides together and sew on 3 sides use about a 3/8" seam.

    2) Stuff with a little fiberfill (or yarn scraps, old nylons and pantyhose) whatever you have around the house. Put in some dried catnip, I am generous, I use at least a tablespoon. Top off with a little more fiberfill.

    3) Sew the opening closed and use the back stitch on your machine. They can get pretty excited playing with these.

    4) Trim all 4 sides with pinking shears.

    5) Toss to kitty!

I used to make these by the hundreds! I used to do craft shows with my sister and I sold them for 50 cents each. I still have at least 50 left and that was from 3 years ago!

I would cut them all out with my rotary cutter, then I would chain sew them, cut them apart, fill and throw in a brown grocery bag, the sit and chain sew the openings. Last as I sat in front of the TV at night, I would have a little garbage can in between my feet and just trim away and fight off cats!

Everything is awesome. I don't think your livingroom curtains are ugly at all. I think they look great. I'm impressed by you saying how old items are because they are holding up wonderfully and I would never guess they weren't new.

This is a bit OT, but speaking of kitty toys. My little kitty loved toys on a dowel and line. My friend's grandma made her a couple of little toys to attach to the line and she loved them. I wondered if you had seen that kitty toy and if yours would enjoy something like that too. If I remember correctly they are called teasables or teaser wands.

Yes Sara, my kitties love those, but they don't last long.

Anything with a feather attached to it, gets mistaken for a bird and gets destroyed within minutes!

I have a feather duster (hot pink) that I have to make sure I don't set down when I'm dusting. Squeaky will take it, handle between her teeth and run like heck to get it away from me! Squeaks and her dead pink bird, cracks me up every time and then I can't catch her because I'm laughing so hard!

You are awesome! Do those cats know how lucky they are? Mine has to just chase the dust bunnies and lint balls around.

Nice stuff. I can sew, and have a lot of talent, and material, but alas, never seem to get the energy to start, much less finish the projects. I have beautiful toille fabric for kitchen curtains and accessories, I have the design in mind, and even some old white sheets that I inherited to line them with, but the thought of walking down that flight of stairs to the sewing room, well thats a different story. Oh, the fabric was a real frugal buy when I worked at the fabric store. I purchased it while on a great sale and used my discount. You're so very lucky to posess the energy and the attitude to get the project done. Last year I made extra money selling hand made American Girl doll clothes on Ebay. Now I can't even get myself to cut a pattern. Burnout? Probably! Kudos to you and your home dec designs.:
