    Exclamation Dee - HELP

Dee I'm finally sewing dd's blouse and I need some help. This is an old pattern, 1974 but she picked it out at a thrift store.

Here is where I need the help.

On the back, there are darts at the top, which I got okay. No problem there.

BUT there are also darts in the middle of the back on both sides (of course). How do I sew those darts? Once sewn, are they slit open in order to lie flat or just pressed to lie flat.

    The instructions say this

Make darks in back. Press toward centre. Thats it!!!

    HELP!!!

They are in the center back of the blouse and are to make it more form fitted at the waist. I would pin the front and back of the blouse at the shoulder seams and the side seams (under the arm) on the seam lines. Then pin the darts on the sewing lines. Have your dd put it on gently and see if the darts fit her first, you can adjust the depth of them.

You will fold on the center of the dart matching up the 2 outer lines. Start at the top end, which will be a point, as you go to the center of the dart it gets larger then back out to the bottom point.

I am a louse drawer but this is what it will look like.

This is a classic blouse pattern, they don't make them too much anymore. Your dd has good taste!

You will also find these darts in the front of a blouse sometimes to give it a real fitted look.

I have to put these kinds of darts in my hubby's store bought dress shirts. He is big in the shoulders and small in the waist.

Thanks Dee, thats what I had done, but it looked really funny.

Next question - do those darts need to be there?

Only if your dd wants the blouse to look like the cover picture. It can be made without them if you want.

No do not split them open, just press to the center back of the blouse. This will help if your dd grows in the next few months, you can let them back out.

Dee, one more question - I've put the darts in the front, and I've made two tucks with lace. Looking very pretty right now.

My question - if I've put the darts in the front, does that mean I have to put the darts in the back.

Now wait until I get to the collar!!!!!!! I'll have tons of questions.

I'm determined to do this right.

No, just pin it together (or baste it if you feel like it) and have your dd try it on, see what it looks like, you may or may not need them.
