Anyone Made A Backpack
I have printed out the tutorial on the tote bag and am going to try it just as soon as I can find a minute.
However, I was wondering if anyone has ever made a backpack? I have an old one that I carry on trips but was thinking of getting a new one for the Disney trip. I would love to be able to sew one but really don't know if this is feasible. What do you think?

Sure you can Pat. Just use a heavier type fabric so it will hold up to weight, like canvas, corduroy or home dec fabrics are good too.
Can you use the one you have for a pattern? You could also reuse the D rings or whatever it has on it once you take it apart.
I have a pattern for one, but that doesn't help you.

I was thinking of trying to use mine as a pattern. It has the closures that just click together and is really just like a sack with a flap, back straps and the closures. I really might give it a try. I went to Joann's Fabrics at lunch and looked for a pattern but didn't find one that seemed simple enough. I only had a few minutes so I couldn't browse too much. I like the idea that it would be washable. I even put Ryan's big book bag for school in the tub every now and then and scrub it.

Here is a real easy one, I would change the cords to straps though or they will cut into your shoulders when carrying it all day.

This one is real pretty but it is only a pattern. I may be able to look at this one more closely and figure it out.

Pat, JoAnn's is having a 99¢ sale on Simplicity patterns this Friday-Sunday (the 19th-21st). It would be so much easier to make with a pattern.

Okay I got a Simplicity pattern for a backpack and the strap adjusters and cord. I'm going to just use some fabric I already have on hand as my trial run at backpack making. Once I get it done, I'll post a picture. The only thing I don't have is the grommet tool and grommets. I'll figure out something else to do instead. Probably just a simple pocket and draw string.
I'd love to have one of those grommet do hickeys but will wait until I have a 50% off coupon!

Can't wait to see it Pat!
I have one of those grommet thingy's and they work great! I also use it for heavy snaps on lots of things.
For anyone else wondering what we are talking about, here is a pic. JoAnn's has them on sale for $14.99 right now, but I know I saw them in Wal*Mart the other day and they were either $7.99 or $9.99 for the same thing.

That's the one I looked at. I'll get one with my next coupon. I think it would come in handy on other things as well.
