I'm horrible. I don't know why I can't just DO things. I have to read and read and read until I feel I have some sort of comfortable knowledge which is like no knowledge at all when you break it right down. lol

I've been soooooo hung up on the thread thing. I mean I could have just grabbed a spool and been done with it a month ago, but NOOOO somewhere deep inside me is this gnawing feeling like there is a right way to purchase the right thread and a wrong way and so I've been running in place for a month over it.

It's only thread, so you can get some idea of how I approach things like notions, fabric, patterns, and getting out of bed in the morning. rofl

Poor Gabe has to live with me 24/7. lol

I feel like this broken record...do you know? do you know? do you know? what about this and this and this and this?

I think many people are meant to do certain types of things like sewing and quilting. I know for certain that I am not a natural, but I'll knock myself out trying until I get to a point that I am loving it. Meanwhile, little Alexandra will be testing out lots of flowerpot hats and toga dresses. rofl

I'm determined to make dresses that Alexandra can twirl in.

Alexandra is going to be one dancing little girl!

Are you saying your anal? Well if you are, join the club so am I about a lot of things!

How about this: Buy 1 spool of white in each of these types of thread, Poly blend (like Coats & Clarks or Sulky) and 1 white in machine quilting cotton. Try them out and see what you like. You will use the poly blends for clothing and home decor and the machine quilting cotton for quilting only, ask CJ to be sure, but I use white for all my quilting at least the part of putting the blocks together, I haven't gotten to the actual quilting part yet!

Then go on to decorative colors if you want. The poly blends come in small spools to match a particular project. 1 small spool will be enough to make an adult sized top and pants. If you are going to do say curtains for instance for 4 windows, then I would get a bigger spool to complete the project.

Dee, I use white for all my quilting as well, except when using black or a very dark color material. For hand quilting, I use off white or a beige.

that's not anal Sara, that is amazingly fun stuff to research stuff to death, do experiments etc.

    It's a special gift! heheheeheh

It's the intellectual way to procrastinate! And research is what I call it.

ahem, it's one of my gifts (or failings) depending on whose looking!

and I always feel much better when I've looked at something from all angles and researched it to death before I begin playing around with it.

LOL if you are getting visions of entire libraries of cookbooks before I "got" the OAMC vision you are right on. Just ask Strawberry.

And I read thru tons and I do mean TONS of books for 2 years before homeschooling.

    Alternate med

    Sewing

    Knitting

    Gardening

and so on and so on

But I actually do all these things, and do a pretty good job of them and that little quirk hasn't stopped me at all.

Excellent answer Dee! Personally, I love the machine quilting thread!

That is really anal Sara, but I like how Margery explained it

I'm more of a jumper inner, trial and error. I'm not very good at following directions either, though.

LOL Sara. There is nothing wrong with being "in the know" about projects that you are putting so much time and effort into. I read lots of books about quilting before I ever even picked out a pattern. Same thing with sewing, I read and read before I even picked up the pattern. I find if I have a good point of reference it makes the project go so much easier.
