Making a table cloth question
I want to make a round table cloth for one of those accent tables that are made of ply wood with screw in legs....I'm not sure how to approach this
.....anyone ever make one? also I want to make a matching seat cover for a stool....any ideas? ...I found patterns for both but they are way to expensive....Thanks, Jayne

When you buy your fabric you will need quite a bit to do this. This is just for instance: You need 2 yards in length and width to give you the drape you want. You will need to purchase 4 yards of fabric (or double what the length is) Then you cut the piece of fabric in 1/2, (2 yards each) and cut one piece cut down the length again. Now you will sew these to each side of the other piece. Don't forget to cut off the selvages, they will make your tablecloth pucker the first time you wash it. You never piece it down the center, it will give you a ridge on the top of your table. This way the seams are on the sides or the drape part.
You amy need someone to help you with this.
For the tablecloth: Take a cloth tape measure and place '0' in the center of the table and measure across to the edge and down to the floor )or where ever you want the length to be. Mark this measurement down. Don't forget to add in the hem allowance.
Take your fabric and fold in half then half again. Now it is in quarters. Lay it on a flat surface, I would also put a few pins in it to hold it in place,. At the corner fold, (the point where they come together) have someone hold the '0' end of the tape measure then you with a fabric marker or pencil and using the measurement you took from the table mark your measurement. Do it in an arc (like a 1/4 circle). Put some more pins in to hold it and carefully cut on your mark. when you unfold it, it will be a circle.
Hem.
For the stool cover: Does the stool already have a cover on it? If so, just remove it and use it for a pattern.
If this isn't clear, just ask and I'll see if I can explain it better.

Thanks Dee!!!!! You are the sewing Queen
.....I'm hoping the piece of fabric I have is big enough...I have to get dh to get the table out of the attic so I can measure......The stool has no cushion, but I think I can figure something out....

For the stool, if you like, you can take some foam, and attach it to the stool top.
Then take a circle of fabric, hem the edges and stretch it over the padding and around to the underside and staple it to the underside.
It isn't removable but it'll fit nice and tight. My friend Gwen does that sort of thing.
Oh and for size, you need the diameter of the stool plus a bit for depth of cushion, and enough to hem and go under.
The cushion doesn't have to be rounded, if it's foam the pulling the fabric tight around will mold it into a nice roundy top.
