a dress for Alexandra take 2
It was more like take 50. The first time wasn't so bad because I did it WRONG. lol
This time I was determined to do this dress the proper way with the seams inside. It was difficult for me and I still have some mistakes in it, but here it is. I did it at 2am. lmao
I decided to do a little flower stitch on the hem this time. I had white thread loaded and didn't feel like threading black. rofl
The pattern directions never said when to do the neck. In first dress, I did it first and it was why I had to stitch the arms on the outside.
This time I got almost done and d'oh the neck wasn't done. I was so frustrated at that point. lol
I ripped, ripped, ripped, and ripped.
Finally, something wearable. And no way was I going to try and match the pattern in the material. rofl

Thank you. My humble beginning in sewing. lol I forgot to mention that the material is from a skirt I bought at the thrift store. I've been buying large sized skirts and dresses for the material because it's dirt cheap and I won't get all worked up if I ruin the material.
Sewing is frustrating for me because I have no idea what I am doing yet, but I am determined to keep trying.
Striving for the day I can say woohoo this is fun. lmao It does feel great finishing something though. Even if it's funky paisley. lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I think you did a great job!
Alexandra doesn't seem to mind funky paisley, she looks mighty cute in it!
The neck is usually one of the first things you do. Does that have an opening in the back of some sort?~~ Dee ~~

Yes it has a slit in the back at the neck. I used a snap at the top. Hmmm. Now I can't remember what I did the first time. (I thought I did do the neck first the first time) and then ran into trouble. I'll have to go look at it again. I know when I did it the first time, the arms I had to sew on the outside (I did zigzag so it didn't look too terrible) because I messed up assembling the interfacing and the front and back properly.Originally posted by SewCrafty

The pattern had it where you sew the back/front interfacing together and then fold down the front interfacing as you sew the back interfacing to the back panel. I did that at first, but then was lost on attaching the front interfacing to the front panel properly. So, I ended up taking the interfacing apart. lol I attached the front interfacing to the front panel and the back interfacing to the back panel and then sewed them together. I KNOW there was an easier way. rofl Because my way was the only way I could actually finish it, but it was a real pain in my butt. I even swore once. rofl Gabe was like uhoh.
I hope this makes sense. I'm dizzy reading it myself. lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Sara,
After all your frustration I think it looks great! I think, from reading your directions, you did the right thing by sewing each interfacing to the front or the back first. That looks so confusing to me! I do know that when I have put my own things toghether, that use interfacing, I always sew the correct interfacing to it's correct side (front or back).
In a nut shell, I think ya did good!!

Next tutorial is on interfacing just for you Sara!

I am just itching to get back in my clean sewing room, so I will work on this tomorrow for you.
What size does Ally take? I'm sure I have a pattern here that will fit her and you can have the finished product.~~ Dee ~~

I did her dress in a 3t. It's big, but she's a perfect 2t and I wanted her to have room to grow into it.
Woohoo. I'd love a tutorial on interfacing. I just used the same material as the dress for the interfacing.
Thank you.

You are doing great with the sewing. The fabric is so cool. Ally is an adorable little girl who is lucky to have a talented mom!
